Hi! My name is Tera, I am 32 and will be having my lap band surgery Thursday 2-19. I am so excited. I started this journey 1 yr ago and it is finally happening. My insurance wouldn't cover the procedure so I am financing it. Not the ideal way but hey whatever works, right?

Can't wait to chat with others who have had or will be having lap band.

Tera,

Congrats! This week will fly by for sure. I had my lap band on Feb 3rd and I also self paid. After three years of fighting with two different companies I said screw it and did what needed to be done. My surgeon says that the surgery will pay for itself in about two years. I just laughed and said if it makes all of my co-morbidities go away and lessens my back and hip pain it will be well worth the mula for sure. I think the day after surgery I was like "What did I just do to myself?" By day four it was all bueno though. I remember reading on this site about how people didn't crave soft drinks anymore and I was like bet me, but I swear I'm almost beginning week three on the 19th and I've not missed them at all. It's very strange lol. Anyway, look forward to seeing you around and pm me anytime you want to chat..

Good Luck and Happy Band Day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

:tongue2:

Tera my name is Heidi and I was banded on February 12. I, too, am 32 and have been working for the last 8 months to make this a reality. My insurance did pay for my procedure but I have to say that even if they wouldn't have, I would have done what I could to make this happen. The whole surgery day is a blur. I was scheduled for 7:30 a.m. and was in my room by noon. I wish you the best of luck on Thursday...remember this is the beginning of your new life.

Hi Tera, and welcome to the forum. I was self-pay too, and it's been worth every penny. I had my surgery last September, and in less than six months, I feel great and look better than I have in years. Good luck on your up-coming surgery!

Kudos to you! Hope everything goes well, I am a pre-banding so I don't have much for pointers. You've got more guts then me at this point. It's nice to see so may self payers in one thread- hard to find. I do not have ins. so therefore I am looking into self-pay what did you, Tera and the rest of you use for financing? Please keep us posted on how you do!

Hi Im new here, I need to lose over 100lbs.

I have a few questions hope someone can answer.Dont have money, does state funded Medi-cal pay for this? I have sleep apnea(well my oxygen drops)diabetes, and have had about 8 operations on my body.. bad arthritis, bad back, knees etc.

2) I have diabetes, but at the same time I can get really bad low blood sugar that comes on suddenly, would this be a problem.?

3)How long are you in the hospital and how long before you can resume normal activities?

4)Im vegetarian, will that complicate things?I eat alot of cheese and drink lots of my cows milk- thats partly why im fat.Otherwise I eat healthy. Just cant exercise really, because of broken back etc

5) Ive heard that some doctors require the patient to loose 30lbs before they will do the surgery - is that true?

(If I could loose 30lbs on my own I wouldnt get surgery.)

Hoping for some advice,

anyone had surgery at UCSF medical center in SF. calif

I was financed thru Care Credit for the entire cost. It took me 1 yr. to be comfortable with the idea of paying totally out of pocket for this. I had a beautiful 56 Chevy that I sold and with the money from my income tax and my beloved car I was able to pay off some exsisting debt. Once I did that I felt 100% better about the financing.< /p>

If you want to chat I'm here.

Can't wait for tomorrow!:cursing::w00t:

Hi Tera!! I had my surgery 2/2/09, and things are going great! I must admit, on the 2nd day, i was also thinking..."what have I done??" But...day 16 is here, and I am so glad I did it! It hasn't been as hard as I thought it would be. You will think...there's no way I'll be full...but you will be! It's pretty amazing!! I honestly don't miss the things I thought I would. I know it's only been 16 days, but this is when I would usually throw in the towel on any diet I was on!!!! Good luck to you tomorrow, and the weeks ahead!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
