two days for my first fill....

Recommended Posts

....Honestly I'm scared, I think with be painful and freeky, Please some advise.....

My doctor has been very good with my fills. I have never had any pain during or after a fill.

I lay on a table, a pillow is placed under my lower back. My doctor gives me a numbing agent, which is injected into my stomach with a small needle. When this occurs, I feel a very slight pin prick that does not give me any pain .

After which the doctor has me do a stomach crunch with my head looking towards the ceiling. She pats my stomach locating the port, whereby she inserts the needle into the port. She then takes out the old fill and measures it. She then replaces the old fill and puts in new fill.

It takes less than 5-minutes and never has caused me any pain. After the fill, I drink Water to make sure I can keep fluids down. Then I go back to work. I stay on fluids for 2 days, the mushies for two days, then back on solids.

I have never has any problems with fills and have been able to keep fluids and food down.

Good luck!

Hi Cynthia!

I just had my first fill last week and it was done and over with so quickly that I'd wondered why the heck I had fretted so much!! My surgeon did not use a numbing agent; he tapped into the port, withdrew some Fluid, put it back in with a dose more and voila! Done. I admit I did not look at the needle but I don't look even for blood tests (a sanity policy on my own behalf!). So, just go with the prick (of the needle!) and it'll be done in less than three minutes. Inhale and do a loud exhale - at the least you'll make yourself laugh! Wishing you the best!

I am not the one you would want to get advise from on this one. I am almost 5 months out and never had a fill. I finally talked my doctor into giving me one and when he went in with the needle he was stabbing all around trying to find the port, That hurt. The next time he decided that he was going to do it with me under an x-ray. I went in just to find out that my port is upside down! I am going in for surgery again tomorrw. I hope that your fill will be great and they can hit it on the first try. I hate to be the bearer of bad news but it seems to follow me. Although I am down 99 lbs since 9/24/08! So I guess I shouldn't complain. If they can find your port right off then it will be no big deal. Just like giving blood from your arm. Good luck let me know how it goes!

I had my first fill last Wednesday and it went great. My dr gives me an numbing agent first which felt like a little stick just like when you get blood drawn. Then he had me push my stomach out tight so that he could feel around and find the port. After he found the port he had me push my stomach out tight again and inserted the needle. After that he has me sit up and then has me drink a big gulp of Water while he fills my band. He has me tell him when the water won't go down anymore and then when that happens he unfills me until the water goes down. We did this a couple of different times until we felt like we got it just right and then he lays me back down, takes out the needle, puts a band-aid on and it's all over with. It was not a big deal at all. I thought it was gonna be worse but it wasn't. So you should really be ok. It's a lot easier than you would think. Good luck with you fill and try not to worry.

I had my first fill yesterday and it was so much better than I thought! I didn't get a numbing agent, he just felt for my port and went for it. It stung a bit, but I didn't flinch it wasn't that bad. After he gave me my fill (3ccs) he put a band aid on it and had me drink some Water. That's when I freaked. I know that it was me freaking myself out but I felt like I couldn't swallow. My friend is the front office manager at the office and she calmed me down and I drank more water just fine. I was on liquids yesterday and ate some mushies today but had a normal dinner. I feel great!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
