I've been reading a lot of posts on these forums over the past month and a couple of terms keep popping up that I don't know the meaning of. What does "pb'ing" and "sliming" mean?

I'm getting banded on Monday and just wondering what those are (and how to avoid them!).

Thanks :)

Hi ZiggyLove:

I was banded on December 11th,2008 and I had one day of the sliming. Thank God. My doctor's nurse told me not everyone goes through it and the length of time varies. It is normal in the healing process of the stomach after surgery. It's a constant build up of saliva causing frequent spitting or regurgitation/dry heaves. I took phenegran to keep me from throwing up to avoid slippage or erosion. I think "pbing" is the same as vomiting. I hope this helps. Good luck on your surgery.

I'm pre op also but from what I understand PB is progressive burp. Like throwing up but the food comes up whole, like it went down. I think it can happen when you overfill your pouch, eat too much.

PB is productive burp. It is not vomiting. It is when the food you just ate, can't get down so it comes back up. It can be caused by not taking small enough bites, not chewing bites enough, eating too fast, eating too much, or a band that is too tight. It is not fun, but after it happens, you learn that you MUST follow the rules. Becky

ZiggyLove, you and I are peas in a pod...we are both getting banded on Monday, and we both have about 100 lbs to lose.

Are you as anxious as I am about the surgery/Post-op?

Nessie, yes, I'm very nervous! But also excited! This has been almost a year-long journey for me, I went to the first consultation back in March 2008. My insurance, Cigna, required 6 months of doctor's visits, all sorts of tests, then took their sweet time before they gave me approval. So here I am now, ready to go!

Surgery itself is nerve racking. The recovery is what I don't look forward to! And the two weeks liquid post-op seems tough, but with our band should be manageable. I've read horror stories about solids getting stuck, pb'ing and slime (eww) and I don't want that to happen to me. I'm afraid of pain, so it inspires me to be good when there's a medical condition involved! (I had gall bladder surgery 8 years ago and for two months I didn't eat a shred of fat in order to avoid gall bladder attacks...so I know I can stick to a diet that will prevent me from getting sick!).

Good luck Nessie, I hope your procedure goes smoothly and your recovery as well. I'm interested in seeing your progress!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
