I had surgery yesterday and stepped on the scale and I am up 10 pounds from yesterday morning.

I assume this is bc I am swollen?

My surgeon said to expect a weight gain right away because off the iv. I stayed overnight so I had a constant iv and my weight jumped a couple of pounds. Don't worry it will be off before you know it.Congrats on entering band land.

Not my experience, but I am sure there is a lot of Fluid and gas retention there.

Glad you had your surgery!

I gained 10 after my hysterectomy. It was due to the iv fluids. It came off after 5 days. Your liquid post op diet should take it off.

Been there, done that. I gained 9 pounds and it took me about 4 days to lose it. It's Fluid retention from all of the intravenous fluids before and after surgery. You'll notice that you'll have a day when you just keep peeing and peeing and the next day your scale will start dropping.

Best wishes with your new band. I love mine!

Sue

Thanks ladies! That helps. Common sense tells me that its all the fluids, I stayed the night and had a constant drip also...but still...there is a part of me that wants to stomp my foot like a three year old and pout bc I worked so hard with the preop liquid diet and lost a lot of Water weight (15 pounds in 6 days) and now its back!

When you are aching you want to step on the scale and see it go down...sort of a confirmation that the pain is worth it.

Today is my third day out. I had a baaaad night trying to sleep on the couch. Woke up in a good amount of pain...but I think most of it was from the couch. I crawled into our waterbed today and it actually felt good (of course I took my pain meds also!)

Thanks for posting. I needed some encouragement!

Congratulations and welcome to band land! I've found a lot of people preferred to sit/sleep on a couch or chair, but that was definitely not me. What gave me the most comfort was stacking about 4 pillows in bed that got me to sit up (from waist) in pure comfort. Then when the pain meds started kicking in and making me sleepy, I could just take 2 pillows off and sleep.

Make sure you are constant on the pain meds like the doctor says. I was trying to be "stronger than that" and would skip a dosage whenever I could. When I realized that if I took them every 4 hours (whether I was in extreme pain or just uncomfortable) I started feeling better MUCH quicker. Then I was off them completely and felt great!

Take it easy, and again, congrats!

I slept in a recliner for 4 days, and then tried being propped in bed with lots of pillows. I found the recliner to be much more comfortable, and my shoulder pain had gone away (since I kept waking and walking through the night). After going to the bed the shoulder pain returned and I haven't gotten rid of it. I couldn't lie down at all (due to pain) for many days so did not give into the temptation.

You know, I slept in my bed from day one and I know people think I was nuts (or in denial LOL) but I did take prescription med, I used a pillow to prop up my abdomen etc, and I have a bed with posts and that helped me pull myself up the next morning. (A person would work, too! LOL) You might want to try that tonight; the pillow helps kind of "protect" the surgical sites and it made it, at least for me, easy to fall asleep (and sleep WAY better than I would in a recliner or on a couch!)

Good luck!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
