Thoughts less than 24 hours after banding

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone (especially the Jan 28ers),

This will be long to cover the positives and negatives in my experience for future banders. I'm pretty high on a combo of pain and nausea drugs so overlook typos, please.

I was banded about 30 minutes later than scheduled because anesthesiologist ran late so I had someone else (who was perfect so I guess everything happens for a reason).

The hospital was great. Only down side is the nurse had trouble finding a vein for my IV. She poked only once but I could tell she knew it wasn't going to work. I wanted to wait for the doc but said that they prefer nurses to attempt at least one stick.

The anesthesiologist got right in with no discomfort even. I told him about a long history nausea after waking up and he promised to give me everything to avoid it. Let's just say my upset stomach (literally) was stronger than his drugs because when they had me walk after surgery I started heaving about 2 seconds after standing. A shot in the IV it settled down.

I swallowed fine in x-ray and I was out by 5:15. Nausea started again -- worse this time -- the first time I got up to pee at home. I heaved and heaved before I could get the suppository in. You're not supposed to because the band might slip. So, I'm freaked out enough to call my doc this morning.

But, even with all that action, I'm in very little discomfort. The shoulder pain was intense, which surprised me. I needed five Gax-X strips for the shoulder pain to stop completely. I feel a dull -- but completely tolerable -- ache at the port site. I'm hoping to switch to liquid Tylenol today and get off the narcotic. That stuff is too strong and makes me very dizzy.

Wrapping up, I feel 70 percent better than I expected to. I got down about 4 oz. of broth this morning. I'm drinking enough too since pee is clear. Just going to sleep and give my body a good chance to heal. I'm not sorry about it all. :cursing:

Great! I'm very happy with mine too. i had nausea after surgery after they gave me some apple juice. I was lucky to stay in hospital overnight as I live 2 hours away, they make you stay first night. I was glad to be there. Just got home last night. All in all my experience was also great -- surgery was quick and I woke up quickly in recovery room. Hopefully aches will be gone soon.

Linda

I have the same problem with the vomiting after waking up. So, I told my doctor about it and he gave me a script for a patch to put on 1 day before surgery and said it would last for 3 days. He said that with the meds they would give me should work. I'm being banded on Feb. 3rd so time will tell.

I had my banding yesterday (28th) I am also still at the hospital because I live two hours away. Anyway I feel way better then I thought. I have some cramping kinda like PMS cramping and I didn't have that much trouble with the gas. My upper back hurt from it yesterday but its better today.

The last thing i remember is laying in the OR thinking I'm I really going to do this or chicken out then I must of feel asleep right after that because next I woke up and thought well to late to change my mind now. Then the nurse asked how I was doing and I said "i am mad at whoever woke me up" lol i was sleeping good.

Last night I didn't sleep very well because I was up every hour on the dot to go pee! Then yesterday in the recovery room I was there for like three hours because I just couldn't get up. I was pretty drowsy last night and a little bit today.

The dr. came in this morning and checked me out and said I could leave. Well he forgot to sing a paper to release me and he took a personal day off in the morning so we are waiting for him to get back.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
