Lack of appetite due to meds

Recommended Posts

I am curious if this has happened to other people - and as my disclaimer I have talked to my surgeon and he said this normal and ok, however because you all have bands (or are getting them) - I am just curious if anyone here has had this happen to them?

Ok, I am on Oxycodone and Dilaudid for pain due to the ovarian cyst that sent me to the Emergency room Thursday evening.

Since then I have no appetite - I have a hard time getting more than 500 calories a day since Thursday. I have thoroughly checked out the side effects and there is nothing about losing appetite or appetite suppression, it does state on both that you could feel nauseaus but that hasn't happened either.

As I said the Doc said it could be the meds most likely but I wanted to hear from my LapBand friends if you have had a similar reaction?

The reason I am asking you guys is I have taken medication like those above for surgeries or severe pain before having my band and I didn't lose my appetite. He couldn't answer that question - and probably secretly thinks I am nuts LOL:tt2:

Anyone? Please help me out folks if you have had this happen to you!

Okay Right after my band surgery I started having extreme pain. They found an ovarian cyst that was larger than my uterus. I lost my appetite. My doctor said that because the cyst messes with your hormones and your body that it can cause you to lose your appetite. It can also cause you to feel nauseated, but I just lost ,y appetite. I keep getting new cysts and they hurt, but I can handle not having an appetite  lol. Good luck and I hope that I helped a little.

Thank you so much for taking the time to reply!

I had not been told about the hormones messing up my appetite, he did say I would affect my mood of course and I had a very large cyst as well about a year and a half or so ago - when they removed it my emotions were likened to those of someone who was post postpartum!

Thank you again, I had only been thinking it was the pain killers and you are right - not having an appetite is clearly not the worst thing lol!

I'm on Ritalin for ADD & that has totally killed my appetite. I set an alarm on my phone to remind me to eat three times a day...it's the only way I'll get enough food in. Before I started setting this alarm, I was eating 300-500 calories a day which left me starving, shaky, unfocused, and lighted headed. Not a fun state to be in.

Thank you SandieLaw,

I ate a bit more today but of course that is because I was trying to lay off the medication. I will set my alarm tomorrow on my computer at work and try to get small amounts in. Take care :tongue2:

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
