I am definitely nervous, but more excited.

I am on day two of my pre-op diet which consists of 3-5 protein/meal replacement drinks a day, 2 cups of low-calorie low-carb vegetables, 2 cups of low-sodium broth, 1 cup of sugar free jell-o, and 2 sugar free ice pops

It hasn't been too bad, other than the fact that my kitchen cabinets are full of Slim Fast and Ensure.

I have made a list of the things I need for post-op, including:

- chewable Vitamins

- Vitamin E Oil

- Cocoa Butter Lotion

- liquid Tylenol

- V8 Splash

- Fiber powder (All-Bran Iced Tea!)

- Crystal Light

I'm sure there's more that I need, I'm adding stuff to it all the time.

I also went and bought some new underwear (I'm weird like that) for the surgery and new slippers for the hospital.

My pre-op testing is Thursday, so I guess I'll get more information then. I'm pretty jazzed about the whole thing!

Hows everyone else doing???

Hi, I'm on day one of my Optifast diet....surgery is Feb.3rd so I'm a groundhogger plus one! I get to add veggies and clear fluids daily so I'm sure I'll survive. If anyone can give me some help figuring out how to add the ticker to my msgs I would appreciate it. Thanks. M

Hi, I'm Feb 2 - I'm excited, nervous, worried . . . I have not gone shopping yet but I had my preop tests done this morning. I keep getting more and more ideas of what I'll need - tomorrow I'll be off to Trader Joes and other places!! The nurse told me today to bring a robe to hospital for walking the halls - I would not have thought of that!! I hate hospital gowns he he he!!

ONE WEEK from today, we will be jumping on the band-wagon!! :(

Is anyone else as nervous as I? I can't seem to think about anything else. And my concentration is shot! I'm turning into a complete airhead!

Hi Karen!! Congrats!!

THREE more days!!

I get slightly dizzy when I think about it!!

Question:

Laurr, you mentioned Fiber powder in your post. I have been wondering about fiber supplements, but my doc never said anything about it. Did yours recommend them? I was thinking about just getting the powder and adding it to my Protein Shakes. I mean, heck, they already taste nasty anyway!!

Hugs you guys!!!!

56 more hours until I am a bandster!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! **gasp**

 yippie!!!! i am almost there !!! monday mornin' here i come. i realize it is a tool, the first step in a long process, but i have already lost 20 poungs, feel better about myself, and wear one smaller size in jeans and shirts!! i am a yo-yo'er so i have plenty of sizes in my closet to choose from. today i begin the two day liquid only diet to prepare my liver for final shrinking. i plan on shopping, being away from food and having a lot of laughs with my husband. i have been pretending he is food. i chase him and try to bite him. he is fast so i do get some excercise in! he sure is great suport. i will be thinking about all my fellow to be banded members today.

I think mixing fiber powder into the Protein Drinks is a great idea!! That would be a bummer to have 'that' stopped up post-op  I'm going shopping today and maybe tomorrow to get ready, I think I'll just wear one of my husband's shirts to the hospital so it'll be button down - instead of buying something. What about pants? I guess big sweats - all mine are too small . . . not for long (hopefully)!! The BariatricChoice stuff tastes great - all the fruity drinks and hot chocolate, but they are 15 grams of Protein and a lot of the others are much higher per 8 oz drink. Good luck everyone, here we go!!

yeah the fiber powder was reccommended to me by a friend who had the surgery. the whole liquid only diet post-surgery really messed with her system and she had "issues". obviously not everyone is the same, but i figure better safe than sorry.

as i sit here typing this, i have less than 8 hours before i leave for the hospital so i probably should go to sleep.

good luck everyone!! i cant wait to hear how everyone is doing when we are all recouped!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
