what offensive things have people said to you while on you weightloss journey?

Recommended Posts

There are a few members of this board who really have issues. I've read others told and I've been told things like:

you are doing it all wrong

your doctor is awful

you shouldn't have done what you are doing (even though the results are great)

all sorts of stuff

But it's not really offensive as many posts are a reflection of the poster and not the original postee.

“OH MY GOD, WHERE DID YOUR FACE GO?”

My brother said the same thing to me. I lose weight from the top down, so my face gets thinner first. He also says "Look at you, you're all dried up!" It isn't meant to be rude, it's just the words they use along with the tone. You can tell when someone is being mean, sarcastic, and rude, just like you can tell when they are being supportive and loving by saying things like "where did your face go and your all dried up".

My dad asked my mom the other day "Where did my daughter go? She isn't fat anymore". I cracked up laughing. Now I call him fat boy and he gets bugged. It's all in good fun. We love eachother very much and my family is supportive of me. That is all I need. The rude people are usually the haters and the ones who don't understand the hell we have been through to get where we are today.

Long before the band, I had comments all the time. The one I hated most was by an "EX" friend of my husband. He was telling us how he wanted to meet a girl and bla bla bla. I said I have some single friends. He looks at me and said "no offense" (You know when someone says that - you are gonna be offended) "but I don't like big girls." Like all my friends were big because I was big. Geez what a loser!

I always love it when people would see a picture of my husband and say, "oh he's cute!" like they are totally surprised I could get an attractive man!

Grrrr!

I actually had a small child come up and lay his head on my stomach one time trying to hear the baby inside. Nope, no baby. Just a very embarrassed me - and his parents.

I've been very lucky this time around. No nasty comments thus far. In fact, not many comments at all, which is just fine.

Two of the older women at work who I've worked with forever and they are like mothers to me both said on the same day that I'm looking really bad, sick, and not myself. Now I didn't tell them about my surgery just because they are very old fashioned and don't know how they would take it so I haven't told them yet. They do know I had surgery though. I'm still on liquids so I'm very tired at work and I've been losing a lot of weight in my face so I'm sure that makes me look sickly. I didn't think these comments were offensive just funny. I know they are just looking out for my health.

As you can tell from my screen name, I'm a locomotive engineer for one of the major railroads of the U.S. That being said, at a high weigt of 376 lbs I have heard my share of rude comments. The railroad that I work for (BNSF) has very strict anti harassment policies. In fact like most HUGE companies the penalties for violation of the harassment policies is pretty severe. So, when someone would make a rude comment about my size I would say something back like " You might think that the comment that you just made was funny, but I don't find it funny at all and maybe your not aware that this railroad has a very strict anti harassment policy. I suggest that you research this policy and educate yourself on the policy and what the penalties are for violation of said policy".

Usually they are backpeddaling and appologizing real quick. Not to mention how embarrassed and red in the face they are. Sometimes it's real fun to turn the tables.

HAHA-I think sometimes ppl make rude comments bc they think the person being picked on is too timid to say anything back...I would have loved to see those red faces. Sometime ppl need some humility and be put back in their place. Ppl today just DONT THINK a lot before they speak!

Brandy: I'd have said, "Excuse me, SIR, what did you say?" :tt1:

 The casino isn't too far from where I live so maybe she is a regular there. Next time I go I will be on the look out for her. I won't ever forget her face. By then I will have some good material lol.

2 Things come to mind:

1) I was at my inlaw's Christmas party and a big group of us were playing "Guesstures"...girls against guys. One guy from our church was having difficulty mimicking the word "flabby" in a way his team could guess. He ran over to me, put his hand on my stomach and jiggled it. I literally wanted to die.

2) A co-worker of mine had a physical altercation with her ex-husband and he messed up her hand, so the next day when she came into work, I took her to the hospital to get an X-ray. In the radiology waiting room, a little boy was with his grandmother playing on the floor. Apparently, I caught his eye, and he said to his grandmother, "Look, there is a huge girl over there". I was obviously mortified, but my co-worker was nice and we laughed it off. For some reason when we returned to the office, she thought it was a good idea to tell one of the doctors we work for in the middle of the clinic, in front of patients and other staff alike, mind you, I am her boss. That made me cry.

Wow. Just wow. I would have been tempted to back-hand the first and tell off the second.

There's a rude photo running around the internet that has the caption "Fat people don't have feelings." Things like this make me wonder if some people really believe that's true.

Well I was not planning on telling anyone at work that I was getting WLS. However, today my boss came in and he is such a dork! I told him I was going to be off of work for a few days for surgery and he responds "Your getting the gastric bypass!"

...LOL! of all the surgeries in the world he guesses (based on how I look) that I am getting some sort of WLS...

So as soon as he blurts this out, all excited, he realizes what he just did and tries to cover by saying "Well...well...I only say that because you should talk to (Fill in the name here) and maybe..." He suddenly breaks off and gets all flustered and says "No you can't talk to her because I don't know if she told me in confidence."

LOL...He stuck his foot in his mouth two times in less than a minute.

I haven't heard too many for a while until today that is ;0)

I was at my friend's house and swiftly bent down to tie my shoe and bolted right back up

my friend said "wow you're really flexible" I responded with "huh?" and she replied "most of the other heavy people that I know can't move like that "

I was floored !! I pointed out that I'm a size 12 on top and a 14/16 on bottom ( yes I am bottom heavy) down from a dress size 32/34 and that I no longer consider myself to necessarily be fat and even if someone is fat that doesn't make them immobile or lazy sheesh

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
