One year update

Recommended Posts

All,

Today is my one year anniversary of my surgery and I was wondering how everyone is doing on their Anniversary. I would love to hear from all of you as your DAY approaches.

As of today, I have lost 115 since the begining of my journey. I can not tell you how much better I feel and all of the NSV I have had. I started out in a 26 jean or 3x and am now wearing 12p jeans and some med tops. I went from 3x scrubs to wear to work, to now buying mediums.

More important, I feel so much better. I can breath, I am not short of breath anymore, I can walk from the parking lot to the store, or into work. I can reach things so much better, not knocking stuff over with my butt....

My chances of diabeties has lowered, my blood pressure has lowered. I can now sit on the floor if I want, I can cross my legs... My thighs dont rub as bad. I feel healthy... finally.

I love, love ,love my band and want to hear your stories.

Following those band rules.

Lois

What a difference a year makes, right? I catch my reflection in a window sometimes and I am shocked by what I see. When I look in the mirror I dont see it but when I catch myslef by surprise, well, it is a surprise. My favorite is when I am folding clothes and I see a pair of my (size 12) jeans and I think 'whose are these? These cant be mine, they are too small! They must have shrunk'. I love my band, it was the best decision I ever made for myself.

This just in ... the scales were again my friend this morning! After a good hard run yesterday and several weeks of seeing SLOW losses...

I HIT MY GOAL TODAY - ON MY BANDIVERSARY!

I am, once again, speechless. Other than getting married to that hot man I call my hubby (whose jeans I am now wearing) and having that beautiful little girl 9 years ago ... this was the best thing I could have ever done for myself.

I shall Celebrate with a four mile run! How different my life has become!

Gingerbug,

A year does make a big difference. I do not see my weight loss on myself except when I look at pictures, then I see it. but looking in a mirror or looking down at myself, I still see the old me. My Laundry NSV is when I fold my underwear... Not Tent-N-Awning anymore.

40ismyyear.

congrads.... How wonderful. scale Victories are just as important. I know this band IS the single best thing I have ever done for myself. Self pay.. yep, and I would pay it all over again... Double it even. I AM WORTH IT.

Again Congrads.. I need to set my final goal.

How did you set yours?

Lois

Lois! Wow Woman! You have done so well in ONLY one year! You are obviously proud of yourself, as you should be! Over 100# in a year....

40-is-my-year! You too! and CONGRATULATIONS on being at goal! Your pictures are amazing!!! Over 100# in a year as well! wow...

Gingerbug - I completely agree with you. This band is the best thing I have EVER done! I tend to catch a glimpse of myself sometimes and think the same thing you do. My oldest daughter has recently lost some weight, so I asked her for her old jeans sz 10? (thinking WAY in the future, right?) seems I have been in sz 12s for so long... I had a fill right after Thanksgiving and have been doing relatively well so I thought "just try them on" OMG THEY FIT! ok - they are tight and she wears super low waist (ugh), but I can zip with out lying down! I have quite a "muffin top" and won't wear them publicly for a while, but THEY FIT!:)

Congrats!

My bandiversary was January 3rd. I have lost 75 lbs. I have been stuggling lately, eating badly. Now that the holidays are over I will try and get back on track. I also have a doctors appointment next week so maybe I need a fill. Well I do agree this is the best thing I have ever done I feel great. I am size 14.

Wow, Congrats everyone!

Karen - WTG! You look amazing!

Yesterday was my bandiversary. I've lost 76 pounds, but have stalled over the holidays. Doc is happy with my current weight, but I'm determined to stick with my original goal.

I recently discovered that I am too tight. Going for a slight until next Friday the 16th. I'm hoping that will help me get closer to my goal.

Great to hear that we are all doing so well. I would have loved to be at goal by my bandiversary, but at this point, I'll settle for hitting it by mid summer. I don't care how slow it comes off as long as it keeps coming off.

Karen - so what's your maintenance plan?

Hi everyone,

It sound like everyone is doing great. The weight loss numbers I've seen for 1 year are amazing. My bandiversity is 1/28/09. I've lose 80 pounds but it's hard for me to enjoy it. I've reached a plateau because of "sliders" so I have to work on this. Anyway, I know it was hard work so keep up the good work in the coming year.

I just wanted to wish everyone a happy new year and good wishes on their anniversay. I'm working real hard to stay away from the icecream and can only take one day at a time. Today i was able to eat Protein so I think that helps. Talk to you soon.

I am happy to see all of your great outcomes. I know you must be elated. I know I would be. I have not done as well but I will keep on trying. I have lost some weight but have struggled in doing so. I would like some help if anyone can do so. I would like to maybe exchange emails or maybe post a message in my profile.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
