Will my cold cause my surgery to be postponed?

Recommended Posts

I am scheduled for surgery on Thursday and started my preop 4 day clear liquid only plan on Sunday. I came down with a cold on Saturday - congestion, cough - no fever. When I went in today for my pre-op, the said I might have to have my date postponed!! They did blood work to see if my white count is elevated - will get the results tomorrow. Anyone experience a cold/sinusitis at the time of their surgery?

I know it's a major major dissapointment if it's postponed but I wouldn't want to be under anesthesia and dealing with the recovery pain and morphine and all that while I was congested. Anesthesia is pretty hard on your breathing/lung function.

Hopefully it clears up right away!

FROM WHAT MY DR TOLD ME HE SAID IF I HAD A COLD OR ANYTHING IT WOULD HAVE TO BE CANCELED .. MAYBE IT JUST DEPENDS ON THE DR :blushing:

When I had my surgery (Dec. 08), I started to get a cold. I took Zycam right away and it cleard my cold up. There are other homeopathic preparations that you can get at your local drug store that won't interfere with anesthesia.

You sound like me! I was scheduled for surgery on a Thursday and got a cold the Monday before. I was FEELING HORRIBLE and then it started to clear up. I Still had my cold the day before and checked with my dr. He said as long as I had no fever and little to no congestion I should be fine. They had me come into surgery anyways and while I was getting my IV they did my bloodwork to check my white blood count...as long as its low I'm sure you should be fine. I think Each doctor might be different but I hope you feel better and this all works out.

I had my surgery - no problems. It was just like you said, checked my blood work to be sure my white cell count was not elevated, put me on antibiotics for protection. I was still congested, but not really bad. I am now 5 days out and feel good, still some congestion, but think that is my usual sinus stuff. Thanks for all the support!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
