Good Morning, Violets..

-11 degrees here this morning. brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!! I'm off to my hospital shift and then nothing until rehearsal this evening. No paczki's for us this year. Actually none for us in two years! I'm stuck at 172 so it's time for the pouch test again. I'm going to do that March 1st and see if it works for me again. I'm not gaining, thank goodness, but not losing either.

I have no idea what to give up for Lent. I've already given up sugar and carbs. hmmmmmmmmm nope, no way will I give up the computer!!! Maybe I'll give up sloth. There's the ticket!!

Everyone have a great day. I'll check back later.

Hey Girlies~

In German, they say Oma and Opa. I like it. I had a grandma, and Ganny. When my nephew was born, my mom wanted to be called greatma, lol!

I am tired like I can't explain today! I have to walk around for 3 hours today w/ the principal and do classroom observations. That sucks cause I'd rather sit on my ass today...but oh well. We worked out...but I feel like I am in a coma.

Have a great day, I'll pop in later!

Morning girls.... my feet are freezing today. And my whole body aches. We went to a Pilates class last night that KICKED MY ASS. I could barely walk out of there because I was shaking so much. I was in so much pain last night that I didn't get any sleep, just kept trying to get comfortable.

I was MIA because I was at a church retreat Fri Sat and Sun. I thought I had mentioned it?? Anyhoo, it was lots of fun. It was from 8:30 - 6:00 on fri and sat and on sunday we left after mass. It was meant as a preparation for Lent and what that all means and entails. Then yesterday I spent all day catching up with work. And I still have tons!

Then last night after my pilates class I ran around cleaning my house because my cleaning lady is coming today. I know, I'm a dork but I'm sure everyone does it.

I'm off to get my coffee...

My sister is borderline Anemic. Is that bad? My mom is freaking out saying that if she doesn't get it under control that it could lead to leukemia?? Is that true?

My g'parents were granny and grandma. Mabubbles is sticking LOL.. we called her Mabubbles all last night being funny, but now it's starting to stick. She said "Whatever, I don't care.. just don't call me Tissue" and she kept trying to tell me I pronounce Granbee wrong, which is why I don't like it.. but I said if it's that hard to pronounce it's not a good name. I can't explain why I don't like it. I liked Noonie, but my dad said that sounds like a vajaja. He wants to be called Pawpaw..

Can't wait to go to the allergist today.. yay. It's funny I am so excited, but my obgyn said if it's some allergies, they can't 'treat' it with shots, etc. till post-pregnancy anyway.. not sure why I'm excited--maybe just to have someone validate it and say I'm not crazy. And when I look in my nose it's a million little blisters, so maybe we can go from there.

We are literally going from 20 degrees to 70 degrees in a day, back and forth. Thus the bad weather in between (at night while it transitions). Wearing a big fur coat one day, and flip flops the next. FUN!

Jenn, I have been in the preliminary organization of a customer trip to NYC again this year (probably in like September, before it gets too cold), are you close enough to NYC to pop in for dinner or something? :w00t:

Anemic just means you have low Iron, which can be fixed by eating more dark green leafs (spinach), and meat.. and/or taking iron supplements (which can be found at any drugstore).

I've never heard of it causing leukemia though, and never thought it was serious. I thought we'd all been anemic at some point, kind of hand-in-hand with being female (due to periods). I was taking iron supplements at one point.

I was anemic for years, prior to my hysterectomy. And during my cancer treatments, they ask about everything-including that. They (seriously) even ask about brand of toothpaste!!!! I took mulitvitamins with Iron for years because of it, and the fact that the iron supplement straight give me horrible stomach aches, and Constipation. Sorry about the TMI situation, but it did!!! Even now banded, they do make kids chewables with iron added. I have not needed it since, and continue to donate blood and pass!!

Tell her to get some Flintstones with Iron!!!

Laura, the only problem I see with Mabubbles---is that for awhile the bay will stick to the strong syllable--and he will likley call her Ma. Keep in mind that may well stick.

Manda's ear continues to look better! The color is going back to normal. Such immense relief passes through me when I look at it now, it is physical! Same as the gut wrench I had when I would look at it at its worst. Now it is relief!

Kinsey and I are going to go buy groceries today....going to attempt to make it a healthy trip. It is always harder with her!!

Also watching the weather, and think next week might be my chance to head into CO for a fill. It is beautiful here, our high today is in the low 60's. But the western slope of CO I have to go to is getting snow today, just not sure of how much. Maybe she will make an exception and see if he will do a fill on Monday. He usually sees other surgical patients on Mondays----but Rick is off on Mondays to drive, he is so much better at winter driving in the mountains! But if I do not get a fill soon, I am going to have to break out the clothes in the give away bags....sad but true.

My Mom and Dad have chose to give up coffee for lent. That will not work for me, I don't DO coffee!!!

Have my grandsons 3rd birthday next week. I need to make a decision on what to get him. He is an outdoor boy....so something he can be outside with. Maybe some of the big old fashioned Tonka Toys.

Well I am going to go fix miss Kinsey some Breakfast. And call and check on my folks, Dad has been down with a terrible cold. Will talk to you girlies later!

Kat

A quick lunch-time check in!!

No kinklings for me, either, Judy. (They're German fried powdered-sugar donuts that are made & eaten only in the weeks leading up to Lent, esp. TODAY!) Nope, no, nuh-uh!! (It must be the devil's last temptation of me before LENT!)

All my mom's grandkids call her the traditional English "Nana". I love it & that's what I want to be called. So many of those other names (MeeMaw??) sound too country for my taste. DH's mom is "GaBa", because there wasn't a name she wanted (she didn't want the Yiddish Bubbe) & that's what ds could pronounce at first, so it stuck! She's not thrilled w/it, but I figure then she should've found one she wanted then... + I think it's cute cuz' he made it up all by himself. Awwwww. Both grandad's are Pop-Pop (which can get confusing so you have to use context to figure out which one is being discussed).

Am burning a Cafe au Lait Yankee Candle on my desk to create a nice atmosphere while I'm chained to my computer all day working!! Like it's actually tricking me! HA! But it is nice...

Back to the grindstone...

Oh and I barely had a chance to go back and catch up on some of the posts and I wanted to comment on your post Michelle....

I get super frustrated with myself and my band at times too. I thought my days of barganing with myself and "dieting" were over once i got my band. It's frustrating and I knew that we were still supposed to make good food choices but also were only supposed to be able to eat about a 1/2 cup of food at a time. That is a huge joke at my house. Anyways, just venting and comisserating with you Michelle...

Have you gotten a fill lately Haydee? Remember when we went to the bread place you were able to eat half a sandwhich, where (and I think I had a great fill back when.. ah I miss it!!) I could not eat bread for nothing. When my fill is good, I can only eat 1/4-1/2c of food at once... besides slider foods (chocolate, chips, ice creams, etc.) but if I don't keep them in the house I'm good.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!
