I had my band done in june 2008. I have gone from 247 to193 and i'm 5'10". needless to say i'm lookin alot better. anyway im a barber and not one single customer has said a thing. the closest i've gotten to a person noticing that ive lost weight is, "your hair looks different" my hair has been the same for 10 years!!!!! i'm not fishing for compliments at all, but can no one really tell that i'm loosing weight? i'm only 30 pounds from my goal. do you really have to be anorexic looking for people to not see you as the fat funny girl anymore? :smile2:

I'm 5'9' and weigh 165 and people just started to realize that I looked different about 10 pounds ago. And I started at 267. Wait until you get the wonderful questions like "have you been sick"? Someone asked me the other day how much weight I have lost, and I said over 100lbs. and my son who is 14 said, "no you haven't". Of course I have, but to him, I'm just mom, and haven't changed a bit. Gotta love 'em.

I was feeling the same way, and finally my daughter told me that a lady at church said something to her. She asked her if I had lost weight, she said she was scared to say anything or didn't want to hurt my feelings by asking.

I think a lot of people just feel like it would bring attention to the fact that we were "big" and don't say anything. Trust me, THEY NOTICE. You notice, so don't feel bad and keep going to goal.

Congratulations !!!! Are you wearing clothes that are too big? If so, go out and buy some clothes that show off your new look. Show some confidence and smile. That's when people will notice.

Pam is right - until I started wearing clothes that fit the new 50 lbs. lighter me everyone thought i had done something to my hair. It was almost comical. Even with newer clothes I still get funny looks. Some folks are just not sure - or maybe don't want to say.

Now, I also have a step-mom and step-sister who will never say anything. I mean - I am 5'2 and have lost 50 lbs. and no comments what so ever. And they are the only people I did not tell about the band. It is what it is. I am sure they have noticed and just don't have it in them to say anything. Whatever.

What they've said. Look at how you are dressing. Are you wearing new bras yet? The reason I ask is if the girls are not where they belong you're going to look "sloppy" and not your best.

As for people not saying anything, I've lost well over 150 from my highest and I have one friend who refuses to even acknowledge I'm healthier, thiner.

Go figure. Different people are just different. Don't let it get to you.

I like the ones who tell you that you have lost enough weight, that you are looking too skinny. Are they jealous? Why would they say that when obviously Im not too skinny.

Folks just been able to notice Iv lost weight, or they are just now commenting on it. Cant say as Iv gotten compliments exactly. One lady says to me, bet you feel a lot better. I guess. No one says you look good.

I think they must be related to my grandma. Everytime my grandma would see my mom, one of the first things she would say is "putting on a little weight Jean?" .... and my mom has always been really thin, too thin. My grandma just was blinded by bias toward other family. She knew what to say to wound. My mom is about 5 3 and doesnt even weight 100 lbs, hardly ever has been over 100 lbs and to this woman she throws up her weight to her as if she is getting too fat?

I also sometimes think that people are very careful and reserved about mentioning weight loss or gains to people who are overweight. I think people are sometimes a little uncomfortable with making any comments about it.

No, you dont have to be anorexic, and you've done wonderfully, but I was just looking at some photos of me at about 190 or so (I'm 5ft 10 too) and honestly, I was still definitely overweight - I hadnt changed that much from my 247 high. In fact I'd really only gone down ONE clothes size. I know how great I *FELT* at that point but I didnt start to look "slim" till about the 160's and once past about 180, every few pounds made a noticeable difference.

Hang in there, people do notice, but they dont know whether its polite or not to say anything.

there's a lady at school who I *think* has lost weight. I just remember her being a bit more rounded than she is, she's very thin now but was certainly never fat. But I cant quite work it out. It really is quite hard to tell on other people.

People are weird and wonderful. I have heard everything from....wow! you have lost a ton of weight....to- have you been sick?...to- you look great I hope you are not going to get too skinny...to -you can tell you have lost weight.. I can see it is your face (That one really kills me as I think I have lost over 100 pounds in less than a year and it's not all from my face!!! LOL) Some folks say nothing because they just don't want to comment on a person's weight ..good or bad. My favorite so far was...look at you, your so tiny! That made me laugh!! I take it all in stride.

You know you have done so well. Be proud of your accomplishments!! You are a star! :)

Did you say that you're a barber? Does that mean that most of your clientele are men? I think some men are scared to death to say ANYTHING, even if they do notice.

There was a comment that threw me for a loop the other day.... I haven't been banded yet and have only lost about 20lbs. I'm still wearing the same old clothes, they just fit a little better now - don't feel like I'm busting the seams anymore lol! Anyway, one of our maintenance guys asked if I've lost weight. I was shocked that anyone, let alone some guy I worked with that I really don't know well noticed (we just joke around once in a while in passing). I said "yeah, about 20 lbs - and thanks for noticing!" then laughed with him.

Then I told my sister (work at the same place). And she said that's just the way he is and that he even asked another gal at another building that he works at if she'd been gaining weight! lol guess he's not one of those guys who's afraid to ask!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
