Whew! It's over I did it. Went by fast. Check in at 11:45 out by 4:14. Not too bad. Not much pain so far just gas pain and pressure. Was able to have yogurt smoothies, Jello, and Tomato Soup. For those of you who are waiting for your surgery. It really was not that bad at all. I would to it again. Well maybe not tomorrow. LOL .

Thanks for all your kind words and thoughts.

Let me know if I can be of any help to any of you out there.

WTG! I am glad you are doing well and were able to move past your fears.

Good for you... and please if you have any concerns during your journey make sure you address them to your doctor and don't wait for the concern to spin out of control. That's the best advice I can give you. Good luck in your new journey

I am too, but not about the surgery. I'm nervous about me. I guess when you try and fail so many times, you lose faith in yourself.

That's what I was afraid of, but then I realized.. there's more. If this fails, it's not the end of the world. It sucks, yeah but there's other options too. Can keep on trying, as tedious as it sounds.. but you just have to realize it's not the end-all be-all.

Though, statistics are ON YOUR SIDE, so go in with an opimistic attitude )

I was so excited a few weeks back about getting the lap band. Insurance is paying for it. :) But I started to read the post under lap band removal and all the people who say it does not work after 3-4 years and the erosoin of the band and how they had to have it removed and never wish they did. My friend said her neighbor got the band a year ago and has only lost 40 pounds. I can do that on WW. I am really freakin out if this is the right thing. I have been overweight on the up and down roller coaster of dieting for almost 20 years. Anyone else go thru this?

Are you glad you didn't cancel? I'm scheduled 2/18 and am thinking about cancelling...

Are you glad you didn't cancel? I'm scheduled 2/18 and am thinking about cancelling...

Melissa Anne,

I too am going in on 2/18 9AM PST. Lets do this together, we will be fine. Just think of all the risks we are putting ourselves thru right now with this extra weight. In a month or so we will be past the fear, past the post-op pain and on our way to our new life at a healthy weight.

Hang in there, do this for you.

Are you glad you didn't cancel? I'm scheduled 2/18 and am thinking about cancelling...

I was thinking about cancelling my surgery up to the very second they put me under. I was scared to death. Now the only thing that I regret is that I did not have the surgery 100 pounds ago. I had my surgery on 10/30/08 to date I have lost 42 pounds. That is 42 pounds that I would have never lost without the band. Like my doctor tells me you get out of the band what you put into it. If you do not eat right and do not exercise you will not do great. The thing is if you do nothing, have the band, WW, or even gastric bypass you still have to eat right and exercise. It is not the solution but a tool. You lose at your own pace not the pace set by someone else. I know someone that had the band and has lost 70 pounds in 5 months and still has not had a fill. I have had 3 fills and lost 42 but I am doing things the way I have to both mental and physical. I would like to think I could lose that much in that time but that is not my style I guess. Do what your heart tells you to do.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
