The "I made a mistake" club

Recommended Posts

For many of us, the first experiences after getting the band don't seem to be as fantastic as we had hoped. The first weeks or even months for some, are a time of great change and we can be in more dejection than blissful states of mind. I thought it would be great to have a place we can come to and find others who are going through the same thing and get that support we need to keep us going.

For me, the band has been a rollercoaster ride since I got it done 11 days ago. I've had days where I've felt like I could take on the world and days where the band has been fighting me (or me it?) and I've wanted to rip it out. Last night was the worst. I was in pain and in tears. I felt like someone had stuck a knife in my chest. After waking this morning, I realise it was my fault, but I wasn't to know that an ice cold milk shake would be a limitation before this.

Today I feel much better and I'm finding following rules on how much to eat, though itsn't exactly filling, is at least pain free. I'm going to perservere with this until it gets to a point where I too am blissfully happy about the decision I made.

Hang in there Sunwyse. The first few weeks post-banding is a very emotional time, when you come to terms with having really "done this to yourself". Roll with the punches, try not to let things get to you and it WILL get better! Feel free to PM me if you need to vent about anything.

Girl you are singing my song! I'm 4 days post-op and I have been trying to convince and calm myself that this IS a good thing and that the pain and discomfort ARE temporary and that I won't have to go without my favorite foods forever just limit them. It sucks cause I'm so hungry and can only have liquids! I start pureed foods next week. I'm starting to get depressed over not being able to eat. I feel weak and hungry and in pain the majority of the time and it's a miserable feeling.

Cobrien,

with your liquids, to they have to be Clear Liquids or can they be any liquid as long as it will go up a straw? I was in the second category and I found custard to be my life saver. At first I thinned it with some milk, but then the last few days before moving onto mushies, I started to have it straight. It helped to give me the sense of bulk in my tum that I'd been missing. Together, we can do this!

Fanny,

thanks so much for the offer, I may just take you up on it!! I know it won't be forever, it just feels like it at times, especially when the band starts to give those stabbing pains that won't go away!

I know. I was cooking for my partner the whole time I was on liquids. It didn't seem to bother me though.

Just remember, it won't last and you are doing this for yourself. You are doing something to make a positive change in your life.

It isn't easy and right now you aren't seeing the rewards. When you start losing weight you will realize it is worth it.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
