How are the banded Notorious Novembers???

Recommended Posts

Hi Notorious Novembers! I finally have restriction and have only 2.5 weeks til my bandiversary. My new WLS dr found that I only had 4.3 in my band for this whole year. My old dr. must not have been hitting the spot, because I was rechecked when I went back last week and the 5.5 is still in there from the last fill. I am now at 6.5 and have restriction to the point where I don't even want to eat. How am I going to get all my Protein in? I am doing really well with not eating at night and I don't want to get that started again ever!!! I love, love, love not being hungry, but need some ideas for getting in a lot of protein in small amounts. The new dr. stressed getting in the protein for the best weightloss. Come on you glorious bandsters that have done so well....help me out. I only have 28.5 pounds to goal and i would love to be in onederland by 11/21, my bandiversary. Thanks in advance for your help.

I buy snack foods high in protein at diet direct on the internet. It takes care of night time cravings and gets in the extra protein I need. I find many of them very good!

Ok, guys, seriously, I'm stuck in a rut. I have tracked every bite I've taken for the last four weeks, I've worked out a minimum of 4 times a week--running, boot camp, yoga, strength. I'm getting in 64 plus ozs of Water a day, taking my Vitamin, eating my Protein first....and I have not DROPPED ONE POUND!! What's up with this? Any ideas? I'm keeping my calories around 1200 to 1400, I've even tried varying it, doing 1000 one day, 1400 the next....nothing is working! HELP!?!?

I was stuck and went on a candy, brownie frenzy for a few days Halloween week. I went up 2 pounds which came off right away and 2 more came off right away when I went back on my regular eating plan. I have heard before that a day of sugar often shakes the system into losing again and I guess it works. In my case it was more than a day but it worked!

Just checking in after a lengthy hiatus. Glad to see everyone is still losing and making it from day to day on this jounrney. I know mine has been tough, but successful. I'm coming up on my 1 year anniversary (like most) and have finally broken the 200lb mark (197lbs) after being a high of 247lbs last year. Keep up the good works and keep the thread alive.

Steve

1400 seems really high. I'm working at my doctors office now. And we tell people that are having trouble to drop down to 800 cals. Most patients never go over 1000, if they are wanting to lose weight. I'm between 800-900 and I'm dropping between 1-2 per week. You may also need a fill. Stay away from all liquid cals. they just go straight through the band.

Can you tell me a typical days meal that equals 800 calories?

800 is not a lot of food. Considering I workout for an hour and a half usually 6 days a week, burning about 400 calories each time, it doesn't leave a lot of energy for my body to burn. Everytime I've tried to go that low, my body shuts down and I don't lose anything. But, I'm willing to give it a try for a week: so here is my meals for today:

Breakfast: Protein Shake, 200 calories

Lunch: Yogurt, 80 calories, babybel cheese (2) 140 calories

Dinner: egg 70 calories, sausage 200 calories, dry toast, 1 piece 70 calories.

Snack: Yogurt 80 calories

That actually puts me at 840. It's only 6:20 pm, I did an hour and a half at the gym, 30 minutes run/walk, 30 minutes of boot camp, and 30 minutes of strength training. I will be starving by 8 pm so will have to go to bed before then! LOL.

Oh and another fill is out for me, I'm at 10 ccs in a 10cc band, not only that but I can't eat more than about a cup of food without bringing it right back up most days.

Bands are supposed to hold more than the cc amt they are. So a 10 cc band should be able to take a couple more cc's. I'm not sure why. Maybe because of the port? Someone out there probably knows!!

Can you tell me a typical days meal that equals 800 calories?

On days that I eat normally without supplementing with bad stuff like I did Halloween week (I was real bad), I eat the following:

AM A skinny vanilla latte grande - 130 cals

choc muscle milk lite RTD - 160 cals

often no lunch

dinner 1/2 cup barb black Beans - 150 cals

1 cup cooked buttered

spinach - 90 cals

Evening tri-o-plex Protein puffs

18 grams protein - 198 cals

This is less than 800 cals. I often will have a dinner with more cals. such as fish with sauce or beef stew and sometimes my evening snack is a tri-o-plex brownie if I am craving chocolate. It has 350 cals and 20 grams of protein. I don't eat them too often. I also add a couple TBS of Peanut Butter at night if I am hungry and low on calories.

I was banded last Thursday and I am so hungry. I have to wait 6 weeks for my first fill. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh

Don't worry about weight loss now. Just stick to the list of foods/shakes you were told you can have and consume enough to keep you satisfied.......don't let yourself get too hungry. You are healing now and may lose some weight, but that will come later. You will be very hungry, but just know it does get easier!

Hi Notorious Novembers! :tongue_smilie:

Just checking in after a lengthy hiatus. Glad to see everyone is still losing and making it from day to day on this jounrney. I know mine has been tough, but successful. I'm coming up on my 1 year anniversary (like most) and have finally broken the 200lb mark (197lbs) after being a high of 247lbs last year. Keep up the good works and keep the thread alive.

Congrats on breaking 200! That's fantastic!

Good job everyone... I have 15 more pounds to go to hit 100. I hope to hit by Jan. 1st... The last is really slow.

I hear ya on the "slow" thing...I'm holding pretty steady here...wanted to be at 100 before my bandiversary (in 6 days!) but am semi-stuck. I'm not too worried, because I wouldn't want ANY of what I've lost back, but...

HELP!?!?

Elyse - here's a radical thought...maybe you're not eating ENOUGH? See if you can figure out how many calories you are burning with your exercise and work from there...with 4 days a week, you might just be burning nearly everything you take in, putting your body in starvation mode.

800 is not a lot of food. Considering I workout for an hour and a half usually 6 days a week, burning about 400 calories each time, it doesn't leave a lot of energy for my body to burn. Everytime I've tried to go that low, my body shuts down and I don't lose anything.

I think you just hit the nail on the head, Elyse...you are NOT eating ENOUGH...check with a dietician or nutritionist, or even see if there's a gym that has free sample sessions with a personal trainer. I bet if you calculate it out, you are not eating enough...your poor body thinks it's starving and is holding onto EVERYTHING you eat to survive!

That actually puts me at 840. It's only 6:20 pm, I did an hour and a half at the gym, 30 minutes run/walk, 30 minutes of boot camp, and 30 minutes of strength training. I will be starving by 8 pm so will have to go to bed before then! LOL.

I know I could do better with my calories, but I also know I could NOT make it on 800 calories a day...wow!

I was banded last Thursday and I am so hungry. I have to wait 6 weeks for my first fill. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh

Hi David! Welcome to what we call "bandster hell"...LOL You've got a band, but right now, because you are healing, you don't have restriction. Don't worry about the weight loss right now. Follow your doctor's rules regarding moving from liquids to mushies to solids - you don't want to give yourself a band problem right off the bat. Make protein the first part of your meal - again, following doc's orders, and that may help with the hunger.

Hi,

First time poster here... Any Nov. Minnesota Bansters out there? What a great support site!!

Hi Onenorahs - I'm not in Minnesota, but welcome to the Notorious Novembers!

I'm doing okay - weight loss has stalled a bit, but I'm losing inches steadily. Down to a size 14 and some size 12's, hanging in there with my fills - I think I've had 3 or 4 (I lose track). Not off the diabetes meds yet, but on low doses.

Took up running a few months ago, and ran my first 5k in October. Still running - actually ran 3 miles this past weekend in honor of World Run Day. Feeling great...very happy I was banded.

My bandiversary is November 17 - in 6 days! I'm going to Celebrate, just don't know quite how yet...maybe with some new photos?

Nice to see new and familiar faces - keep on keepin' on, everyone!

Ok so, yesterday, I ran for 2 miles, did boot camp for 45 minutes and strength trained for about 20 minutes, ate LESS than 800 calories. Get on the scale this morning....and have GAINED a pound since Monday. I'll stick with the 800 calorie diet till Sunday but it's not looking good. Ebony, I think you and my's original idea was right, starvation plateau that low.

Four days post surgery. I am sipping as fast as I can and getting NO WHERE near the goal of 60 - 80 grams of protein or the 64 oz of liquids. I just feel FULL. I don't know if it can still be the gas build up (I would think by now that would be gone) but it is a struggle to drink. And so far I have not had the nausea or spasms and don't want to wander into that territory by pushing too hard with liquids. I about passed out today as it was my most "strenuous" day. Went from second story to basement for shower and I was sure I was going to pass out. Looking back on my last few days I have had a total of less than 1000 calories. Am I just not getting enough nourishment in me? Once again a friday where I can't get ahold of the doc until Monday rolls back around so I am hoping maybe someone here has some experience on how to keep energy going. I do have fibromyalgia too and that may be where some added fatigue comes into play. How did you all fair with the goals the week after surgery?

2 days until I fly out to San Diego to have my Bypass Surg. in Tiajuana Mexico. Not gonna lie, the nerves are starting to surface. I don't fear the surgery itself, or the fact that I'm traveling alone, but its the aftermath that I'm stressing about the most, after this 8 week wait. I'm excited to finally be here, but I am really dreading the post surgical chapter. I know its going to be tough, real tough and I think I'm just in my head to much now that the day i here. Wish me luck, Hopefully I'm one of the lucky ones, and everything goes smoothly. Cant wait to give an exciting update,. If there is anyone else have a June bypass or even a recent one, Id love to have someone to compare war stories with. Also, anyone near San Antonio Tx? See ya soon with the future me. 💜

I'm in Houston so kind of near you and had the sleeve in Dec. Down 61 lbs. Feeling better. Was definitely worth it. I hope the everything is going well for you. Update us when you can!

I am back home after my bypass surgery in Tiajuana. I'm post op day 4. Everything went great! I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who have not encountered much pain at all, no nausea thus far and I'm having no problem keeping down broths and water. Thank you for your well wishes. I cant wait to keep up this journey and have a chance at better health and simply better quality of life. I know there will be bumps in the road ahead, and everything won't be peaches and cream, but at least I have a great start so far. 😍

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

I'm so happy for you! You are about to change your life. I was so glad to get the sleeve done in Dec. I didn't have feelings of regret overall. And I'm down almost 60 lbs. I do feel a little sad at restaurants. I can barely eat half a kid's meal. I get adults meals often because kid ones don't have the same offerings at times. Then I feel obligated to eat on that until it's gone and that can be days. So the restaurant thing isn't great for me. All the rest is fine by me! I love feeling full with very little. I do wish I could drink when eating. And will sip at the end. Just a strong habit to stop. But I'm working on it! You will do fine! Just keep focused on your desire to be different. Not better or worse. But different. I am happy both ways but my low back doesn't like me that heavy. So I listened (also my feet!). LOL! Update us on your journey! I'm not far from you. I'm in Houston. Good luck and I hope it all goes smoothly! Would love to see pics of the town you go to for this. I've never been there. Neat you will be traveling for this! Enjoy the journey. Take it one day at a time. Sometimes a few hours at a time. Follow all recommendations as best you can. 💗

      2. Doughgurl

Thank you so much for your well wishes. I am hoping that everything goes easy for me as well. We don't eat out much as it is, so it wont be too bad in that department. Thankfully. Also, I hear you regarding your back and feet!! I'd like to add knees to the list. Killing me as we speak! I'm only 5' so the weight has to go. Too short to carry all this weight. Menopause really did a doosey on me. (😶lol) My daughter also lives in Houston. with her Husband and my 5 grand-littles. I grew up in Beaumont, so I know Houston well, I will be sure to keep in touch and update you on my journey. I may need some advice in the future, or just motivation. Thank You so much for reaching out, I was hoping to connect with someone in the community. I really appreciate it. 💜
