I was banded 2 days ago. I am still bloated and taking Tylenol 3's for pain occasionally. I have no idea how long to keep on the steri strips. I am hungry and am managing.

My Dr. said to leave the steri strips on for 2 weeks. Let them fall off on their own. I was banded 2 days ago, on the 5th. I'm still having some pains but have stopped taking the t3s and am taking childrens liquid Motrin for the pain. I can't sleep on T3s. What I'd like to know is if I'm getting enough Water or fluids. How much is enough?

Hello to all! new to forums! I was banded this last monday 11/3/08. I was in a lot of pain the first day but by the 3rd day I was driving. The first 3 days I was doing great. I was able to drink my Clear Liquids. Today is day 5 and I'm very active and having just minor soreness. My only problem is that I'M STARVING!!!!!. I had 80 grams of Protein, lots of Water, 2 cups of broth, 2 jellos, many popcicles. My doctor says it will be another week before I can even get full liquids. I'm trying to stick it out but now it's getting hard. My first fill is in 3 weeks!! can't wait!

I was banded Monday and am doing better but I'm still sore and still have some gas pains. I was able to sleep in my bed last night. I might take some pain meds tonight to sleep better. I started full liquids on Wed. but am still hungry. Next week I get to start pureed foods which I'm pretty excited about. I just have to work this darn gas out! I've been walking every day lots but still have the pain in my shoulder, hopefully it will go away soon.

I was banded on the morning of November 5th. I am able to take clear liquids, some Jello. I am still feeling quite bloated. Transitioning from a sitting-to-lying-down position makes my whole abdomen quite sensitive.

I only took a few morphine pills, as I don't think I really needed it. I hate to take medecine anyway.

Only tonight have I had some pain in my left shoulder. Other than this, I've had some problems taking deep breaths but in general my biggest problem has been my abdomen feeling bloated and sore.

Hello November bandsters, its me Julie, well I did it and its over thank god. I got banded Wed morning at 8:00. its funny I read all these different stories on what diets we have, I had to go on a 7 day Liquid Protein diet before and then once i got banded i didnt get anything for 24 hours, not even a sip of Water, my mouth was so dry i thought it was going to crack but the nurse gave me a stick with liquid on it to wet my mouth, man that was great, anyways the next day around 10:30 they brought me broth and Jello and pineapple juice, i drank the broth no problem and they let me come come around 12:00. I am on liquids again for 2 weeks, then soft 2 weeks then regular foods. I havent really been hungry, I know I havent been getting enough liquid so I will try harder tomorrow. I dont regret doing this I will just be glad when I am no longer sore. If anyone has any questions just ask. I will be checking upon the future bandsters.

What are you planning on eating when you get to full liquids as compared to clear fluids?

the doctor said that I can try no added sugar applesauce, cream of wheat, tomatoe juice, v-8, and no added sugar grape juice. I asked him about cream of chicken and he said it was fine as long as I blended more to reduce the chunks. I'm actually looking foward to it becasue i'm constantly starving for more texture.

Hi all!

I was band last Monday and so far all it's good. I felt hungry for the first time last night but it was because I haven't eaten anything in 2 hours. Also my post-op diet is so different I have to be in a liquid diet for a whole month and the 2 week of pureed foods then I try to eat "normal" foods. So far I don't like the Unjury chicken Soup OMG I thought I was going to puke it all up I was only able to eat 4 oz of it but the heath wise hot chocolate is SO good and I make it with milk so it was 22 grams of Protein. Good Luck to Everyone!! WE ALL CAN DO THIS!!!!

I am new here today... and only two weeks out from my sleeve surgery on the 23rd. I am amazed I have kept my calories down to 467 today so far... that leaves me almost 750 left for dinner and maybe a snack. This is going to be tough for two weeks... but I have to believe I can do it!

Hey everyone. I'm new here so I thought I should introduce myself. I am 53y/o and am scheduled for Gastric Bypass on June 25th, 2025. I'm located in San Antonio, Texas. I will be having my surgery in Tiajuana Mexico. I've wanted this for years, but I always had insurance where bariatric procedures were excluded. Finally I am able to afford to pay out of pocket.  I can't wait to get started, and I hope I'm prepared for the initial period of "hell". I know what I have signed up for, but I'm sure the good to come will out way the temporary period of discomfort and feelings of regret. I'd love to find people to talk to who have been through the same procedure or experience before. So I look forward to meeting you all. Hope you have a great week!

On day 4 of the 2 week liquid pre-op diet. Surgery scheduled for June 11th.
Soooo I am coming to a realization
of something and I'm not sure what to do about it. For years the only thing I've enjoyed is eating. We rarely do anything or go anywhere and if we do it always includes food. Family comes over? Big family dinner! Go camping? Food! Take a short ride or trip? Food! Holiday? Food! Go out of town for a Dr appointment? Food! When we go to a new town we don't look for any attractions, we look for restaurants we haven't been to. Heck, I look forward to getting off work because that means it's almost supper time. Now that I'm drinking these pre-op shakes for breakfast, lunch, and supper I have nothing to look forward to.  And once I have surgery on June 11th it'll be more of the same shakes. Even after pureed stage, soft food stage, and finally regular food stage, it's going to be a drastic change for the rest of my life. I'm giving up the one thing that really brings me joy. Eating. How do you cope with that? What do you do to fill that void? Wow. Now I'm sad.

I hope your surgery on Wednesday goes well. You will be able to do all sorts of new things as you find your new normal after surgery. I don't know this from experience yet, but I am seeing a lot of positive things from people who have had it done. Best of luck!

Life as a big person had limited my life to what I knew I could manage to do each day. That was eat. I hadn't anything else to look forward to. So my eating choices were the best I could dream up. I planned the cooking in managable lots in my head and filled my day with and around it.

Now I have a whole new big, bigger, biggest, best days ever. I am out there with those skinny people doing stuff i could never have dreamt of. Food is now an after thought. It doesn't consume my day. I still enjoy the good home cooked food but I eat smaller portions. I leave food on my plate when I am full. I can no longer hear my mother's voice saying eat it all up, ther are starving children in Africa who would want that!

I still cook for family feasts, I love cooking. I still do holidays but I have changed from the All inclusive drinking and eating everything everyday kind to Self catering accommodation. This gives me the choice of cooking or eating out as I choose. I rarely drink anymore as I usually travel alone now and I feel I need to keep aware of my surroundings.

I don't know at what point my life expanded, was it when I lost 100 pounds? Was it when I left my walking stick at home ? Was it when I said yes to an outing instead of finding an excuse to stay home ? i look back at my last five years and wonder how loosing weight has made such a difference. Be ready to amaze yourself.

BTW, the liquid diet sucks, one more day and you are over the worst. You can do it.
