Bandsters Nov 17-21

Hi all!

I had talked with several of you who said you were interested in keeping in touch since we were being banded the same week... so I set up a thread for the week of Nov. 17-21. I am being banded by Dr. Kirshenbaum in Denver on Nov. 19th. I had a phone consult with him yesterday and everything is a go!

Im starting to get all nervous/excited...

Do any of you have to go on pre-op diets? If so what does yours consist of?

Hi everyone~

Well I was banded on 11/19 and had my first fill (only 2cc's) on Monday, and I'm a little worried. I feel no restriction at all, I feel like I could keep eating and only stop because I know that I should. And that scares me because I know that I can keep going. Even after waiting for 15-20 minutes after I feel like I could eat more. Do you think 2cc's was to little? Should I go back and ask for more? I just dont want to have to little restriction and end up not losing any weight. I dont have another fill scheduled til 1/27. I'm going to the gym 5 days a week and keeping my diet low carb, high protein, but this is not how I though it would be. I was looking for a defintie feeling of fullness. I mean I dont want to be in pain or unable to swallow liquid, like some horror stories I've read but, I feel like I need more. What should I do? Looking for advice.

ddgalarza I had a fill on 12/18 and I had 4 cc put in and there was a little restriction in the beggining but not now... I'm so scared... Dr did say that I have no restriction then to call and get another fill our dates are close. I may wait out this week and then say " Fill me please " How much can you eat at a sitting are you getting full at all?

Hey Heather, I feel like I could eat endlessly! I really dont feel like i have an restriction at all. i called my doctor and she really didnt seem to concerned and was anti putting more fluid in for fear of putting in to much. so basically I feel like I am on my own and am working off of will power, which if i had I wouldnt need the band. I am trying to pay more attention to my body and recognize the difference between full and stuffed. But I am scared to death right now that I am not going to do well over the next 4 weeks. I dont have an appointment for a fill til Jan 27. So for now I am just trying to make good choices!

Greetings all-

I had my surgery on November 20th and am not scheduled for my first fill until 1/6/09. Can you imagine how hungry I am? I just try to exercise if it's stress hunger, and turn off the TV to read if it's suggestive food hunger. I read on another thread that some get only one fill and others as many as 6 so just hang in there until your doctor gets it right.

Does anyone have any sugestions for constipation? I'm on 2 colace a day and drinking 80 oz of fluid. Does fiber stretch your pouch?

We go around the same time it's weird how each Dr. is. Good for you that you have will power!! Today I started taking in more water I'm carrying a waterbottle around with me so I will drink last week I was lucky if I took in 16 oz a day. i read on an earlier post up top that they are takingin 80oz of water!! WOW I wish i could be that dedicated. I'm working on paying attention to full.... all to well beofre our surgery we ate till we were stuffed or over stuffed... it's darn hard!!

Keep up with the good choices!! The TV sucks sometimes with all these food and desserts and the starts the food hunger so I have shut it of and gone to a book or flip the channel to another show!!! LOL...

Keep your chin up and keep posting it gives your fingers something to do!!!:frown:

Yeah, that's kinda long. I had my surgery the day after yours and I got my first fill today. I find (for me) that a warm mug of low-sodium chicken broth during those hungrier times between meals can help. I think it's something about the warmth and the savory flavor.

As for the constipation, good ol' veggies or salad. Some fibers can stetch the pouch, most specifically the tablet form. I don't know about powder like Metamucil, but I was using Benefiber in my water or soup. No taste or texture.

the only thing that helps me are refried beans or Prune Juice I drink a small 4 oz can and that usually helps.

Hi all! I haven't visted this thread in a while. I was banded on 11/21 and had my first fill today. I have 4cc's in my band, so hopefully this will help with my hunger issue! I am feeling fullness with drinking just 4oz of liquid at a time. So woohoo! I hope it stays this way!

I know most of us have tickers but I was just we could post our surgery date and how much we have lost to date. Just curious to see if we are all losing at the same pace.

Current weight loss 26lbs!

I can't, for the life of me even figure out how to update my ticker.....can anyone help me? Apparently I'm technologically challenged!

dd, just click on your ticker in your signature. It will take you to a page to enter your password and you can update it.

I got my second fill today....another 1 cc added for a total of 6 cc now in a 10 cc band. I feel snugness in my chest like I did after surgery, which I think is a good sign. Fluids for the rest of today and tomorrow, then mushies and softer meats for two days, then regular food. I hope this kickstarts things...I definitely have had restriction but still can eat too much.

Hey thanks for the help. I am so frustrated. I got banded on Nov. 19 with no resrtiction and had a fill on Dec 22, of 2cc's which literally gave me no restriction at all. After about a week I called my doctor and she said that it would take 4-6 fills to get it right and she was against adding more at that time. So I literally have been working off will, hitting the gym and keeping an eye on the scale and it's not moving like I want it to. I'm on a 19 day count down until my next appointment and I really hope she ups the amount becaue 2cc's really didn't cut it. I can eat WHATEVER I want and ALOT of it...but I dont. I stop eating because I know I should, not because I feel full or restricted. I had better appetite control on diet drugs, which I dont ever want to take again. 19 days seems like forever!!!!!!!!!!

Awesome job Heather!
