Stress in our Lives
Hi bandsters Thought I would start a new thread that shows what happened when you get off track with the stress in your life. For the last 6 months I have beening caring for my 85 year old mother, who died in the end of January 2011. I gained 39 lbs in that time period, by not eating the correct foods and stopping my exercise. Now I'm going to fight my way to one-erland. If any of you would like to join me please tell of your struggles which caused you to gain and then everyday we will post the positive things we are doing to get this weight off. I'm starting today using my little tony 3 times for 10 minutes each. I am also going to drink 8-8 oz glasses of Water.

Notorious November Weightloss Spreadsheet
Hi Glammaw I'm fifty one years old so I tought I would reply. I lost my desire to walk and eat right. I was really struggling but got another fill- my 4th and now I'm losing weight again. Average of 2.3 the last 5 weeks. I just needed to refocus on what I was suppose to be doing. It seems to be in the exercise(all I do is walk each day), watching what you eat and tracking everything put in your mouth. Hope you keep on losing.

is there a such thing?

Hi GLammaw- We are so happy you are back. I just got a fill to 8CC in a 10CC band, and was wondering if I was getting enough food. He said if I eat my Protein first the size of an egg 3 times a day and 1 Protein Drink with the vita-band Vitamins and 2 calcuims that is perfect. I resort to low fat sour cream between 1 teaspoon and 1 tablespoon with my protein when I'm real tight. I find that my allergies tighten my band as well as the weather. Call your doctor if you are concerned.

Does everyone get the lidocaine shot before a fill??
I've had three fills. The first two were completely painless. The third was a double stick, and a little bit of pain. I prefer the fills without any more shots.

Hi all. My weight is down to 248.8, so please update me on the spread sheet. Thanks. I went shopping in my upstairs closet again. That's where I used to keep the clothes that I out grew. In another two months or so I will be shopping for real. Where has everyone been? Miss hearing all your updates. Hope you are still losing.

Hi AllThngsArePossible, I've been doing a low carb diet. FOODS Wake up TEA, MEDS, CAL & VITAMIN ISOPURE Breakfast GREEK YOGURT ATKINS SWEETENER OR EXTRACT MidMroning TEA WATER WATER Lunch 3OZ CHICKEN BREAST, or FLANK,or 2 EGGS, or STEAK OR FISH 1/4 CUP GR. BEANS,BABY PEAS and 1/4 CUP CARROTS,BEETS Afternoon drinks SNAPPLE TEA OR ICED TEA SUGAR FREE JELLO NO CARB WATERS Dinner CHICKEN, TURKEY, FISH and 1/4 C. ZUCHINNI OR YELLOW SQUASHand 1/4 C CARROTS OR BROCCOLI Evening Drinks1 C SKIM MILK SUGAR FREE PUDDING IF I ATE EVERYTHING ELSE CORRECTLY and a SUGAR FREE POPSICLE IF HUNGRY. My doctor insists on the 1 c. of skim milk late in the day as it releases the fat in your cells. But maybe you could do without it. I'm also to eat the protein first and if I start feeling satisfied stop and trash the veggies. You could also do with out the pudding and just have the sugar-free popsicles. If I go below 1000 calories I rarely lose weight, if I go above 1200 calories I gain for the next day. Hope that helps.

Confused and Worried
We have one fellow in our support group that weighs 450 pounds. Most of his brothers and father died before the age 45. He decided he wanted to live to see his children grow up. He has to get to 300 if he wants the lap band. 350 for the bypass. He's lost 27 pounds so far in 4 months. So he will get there. I eat 2 Protein drinks a day(Isopure no carb) 6 oz each when hungry. Breakfast is 1/2 C. greek yogurt with2 oz unsweetened applesauce and cinnamon. lunch and dinner is 4 oz of chicken, turkey or fish and 2 vegetables of 1/2 cup each. Normally for lunch I have the starchy veg. (peas, winter squash, or brown rice) I am not allowed anything white(flour, Cereal, rice etc). In the afternoons I normally have a cup of sugar free Jello. And in the evenings I have 1 cup of sugar free pudding with skim milk. An hour before I go to bed I have an 8 oz glass of milk. I drink Diet snapple, herbal tea with splenda, and at least 64 oz of Water. If you get hungry add one more zero carb Protein Drink. If you go off the plan before pudding time you get no pudding. This works for me. One of our nurses does the same diet even though she has had any surgery, so I know you can do it. Remember you didn't gain the weight in a month so don't plan on losing it in a month. We are all cheering for you.

Confused and Worried
What are you eating? Do you keep a food log? This will show if you are around 1000 cal. and 75 g of protein. If you eat too little your body will go in starvation mode and you will not lose as fast. Did you have to have a mental health consult before your surgery? I did and he told me I would mourn the loss of food, but if I got angry or depressed to call him so he could help me through that rough time. I've been struggling with the exercise also as it's just too cold to walk. Let me know how your doing.

New Column on Our Spreadsheet
Sistasassy---I'm confused, where do I post my current weight to get on the spreadsheet. I think you have a new one is that correct? I'm finally losing again after the second fill and wanted to share the good news with all my Notorious Novembers. Thanks

Not Losing. . . except my mind.
I'm losing some of my frustration with something the Dr told me yesterday when I got a fill. He said that the reason he doesn't fill more often is that your new stomach needs to adjust to where the band is. His particular minimum refill date is 6 weeks, but some Drs go as long as 3 months. If you do the fills too quickly the band will slip. Anyway I received another 2.5 cc., and away went the hunger. Now I need to get back to 3 meals & 2 Snacks with the correct portions. Happy losing to all.

Bandsters Nov 17-21
I go the 17th of Feb. for my second fill, and was actually glad to hear that Beth from VA was feeling hungrier after her first fill. I was to the point that I was about to taste the dog food. I keep no junk in my house so that was the most tempting thing I had. The last 2 weeks I've gained 6 pounds, thanks to the Dr's suggestion of eat more often and small meals. I am always hungry. HELP!!!

platue already
Hang in there Keri. I had my surgery the same day and get my first fill on 1/6/09. I'm a bit discouraged as I'm not gaining but I'm also not losing. I understand that when the dr's get the fills to the correct amount, we will start to lose. So for now the word is patience.

My friend is losing her mind! HELP!
I received an instruction booklet from my surgeon's office and here is what it said, "Friends and extended family members also must adjust....Be open about your appreciation of them and their own feelings. And finally let people pull away if they need to for a while. There may be a need for some time to pass before they sort it out for themselves. Your main responsiblilty is to take care of yourself. Others are responsible for their own feelings and actions. Hopefully most close family and friends will all eventually adjust." It sounds like she is really scared not only your weight will change. Just the fact that this was in my patient manual shows it has nothing to do with you as a person.

Not Losing. . . except my mind.
Oh Tristessa it is so sad that all these things are happening you at once. Just the eating and recovering was a big adjustment in my life. But to have a broken knee too. I think anyone would be depressed. But through your tribulation you have learned something, and you have grown as a person. Eight pounds is nothing in our "battle against the bulge". So don't beat yourself up over it. Just be thankful that you are back on track, and try to stay there. Having a fill on the thirteenth should really give you the hope you need.
