Rant about Biggest Loser

Recommended Posts

Am I the only one so over The Biggest Loser?? I know it is a game, but Vicky is a little annoying to me. I don't believe for one minute any of that crap that there is no alliance- did you see her grin as Brady was denying it?? Also, they were cooking something up. How else do account for that Cheshire cat smile during weigh ins? Ok- I am done with my rant. Just my 2 cents.

Well I was ever into it so my being over it having watched two episodes is probably not unexpected. :grouphug:

I also hate Jillian.

See, I think most of the training is bunk. They are pushing those people way too hard and that is not effective training. Making people run on a treadmill until they puke? Sorry, not good training.

I think they design a lot of the challenges and stuff to make the contestants look stupid, too. Hey, look at the fat people on the slip 'n slides, look at them hanging from ropes upside down!

Never watched enough of it to know who you're talking about. I saw maybe two episodes and the show disgusted me so much I couldn't stomach another. Taking obese people allegedly desperate to lose the weight and get healthy, and turning it into a ratings game by trying to sabotage their weightloss efforts in front of the viewing audience. Dramatizing the struggles an obese person has to try and make the next episode a cliffhanger (the one I saw & remember, showed an obese woman in a kitchen sobbing and bawling, saying "But... I'm... just... so... hungry..." My integrity is still worth something to me.

that goes against everything i've been taught in my personal training. i get pushed (because i will not do so on my own) - but not to the point that i need to hurl.....do i crash on the basketball court after doing windsprints & ladder drills - yes. there is nothing healthy or positive about training to that point. i was bit disappointed.

I watch it faithfully, watching the types of exercises that work. I've also liked watching fat people turn into skinny. I actually tried out for the show.

Another faithful BL watcher here. I absolutely love it. I cry during every episode! I love that they've started showing updates at the end of each episode too, showing the person that got kicked off how they look today.

I won't go so far as to say it's inspiring though. The only thing that show has inspired me to do is to NOT try out for Biggest Loser! They push too hard, and they encourage drama with the way they do the weigh-ins. I hate that a 5lb weightloss in one week (which is great!) can become a bad thing if your team needed you to lose 7lbs, ya know? And it bugs me that people will sabotage themselves (and drink lots of Water the night before the weigh-in) just to "play the game" one week, so then they put up high numbers one week later when it looks like they've lost a lot more then they really have.

Like for instance, this week the guy on the Blue team (Brady) only lost 3lbs. That's bullsh!t if I've ever seen it! He bulked up on Water the night before the weigh-in, I guarantee it. Especially given the grins that he and his wife were shooting at each other before he got on the scale. And next week, he'll probably lose 20lbs and be the biggest loser of the week! It's those kinds of situations that irk me.

I'm addicted to BL because it really is an entertaining show. But I like BL for the same reasons I like all those other reality shows, and that's the drama. I don't watch BL for any kind of diet/exercise tips.

This is why I think Bob is a better trainer than Jillian.

Wow, I had no idea they did crap like that.

Whereas I tend avoid the drama-filled ones. My favorites are all about accomplishing things. Though I do watch Big Medicine ... probably because I can relate to the people more.

yeah i have NO DOUBT that Brady Water loaded. i personally think that should be considered cheating and an automatic below the yellow line.

i watch it for the transformations... and you do get a few determined people (Ali last season and i cant remember her name right now for this season - yellow team - girl maybe begins with a C ???)

Does anyone here know how to post polls? If so, how about posting a poll to ask who would go on biggest loser if WLS was not an option for them?

I think I'd stay fat before I'd embarrass myself on national TV.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
