Which did you choose? Which you picked and why. I plan to go with the Lap Band because my doctor has done more of those and he is confident in both. There is $100 difference for the Realize Band and I thought I wanted the lower profile port, but decided I would love to worry about wether my port is visable in a year!

I'll answer the poll once I have my band.

I spent a lot of time on the realize thread since my doctor offers both. I did my own research and noticed many people were very full but didn't have ideal restriction. I then read this may be due to the realizes lower pressure system which in turn males erosion less likely. Thy equal out the be great bands either way. While I think both are marvels of modern technology, I went with the lapband because of the symetry of the actual band. My brain just found the look more pleasing. I also heard lapband is coming out with their fancy who haw whatsit website just like realize. I felt more comfortable choosing this band but I know you can do great on both bands.

I chose the Realize band because that's what my surgeon's office offers. LOL I like it anyway, though. If I hadn't, I would have gone to a different surgeon.

I also chose the Realize band because that is what my surgeon uses. I do actually like the website that goes along with it. i am just waiting for my access # from my surgeon so i can log in. you can track your food & Water intake, your exercise and there is a place to upload photos of yourself to see your progress. i believe that you can also use a photo to see what you would look like after weight loss!

My surgeon uses the Realize band mainly, so that's what I'm getting. I figure he's the expert so I'll go with whatever he chooses to place.

Oh boy did I have trouble choosing! My surgeon told me it didn't matter which I chose, but of course this is MY body do I had to make it a big deal! I picked the Lapband after researching the different cc sizes versus pressure and restriction of each band. Not much at all out there showing significant differences, so I went with my own research, but I know I will be successful, and would've with either band :smile2:

My doctor uses both, but thought the lap band would work well for me, so that is what I got. Only four days out, but feeling good.

I choose lap band because in québec you have 2 choice lap band or bypass and the waiting list for the bypass was so long it was unbelivable ( 6 to 7 years)

And lap band was more what I wanted.

I chose the Realize Band. My doctor doesn't recommend one over the other, so it was totally my decision. He had samples of both bands, and when I compared them side by side, I didn't have to second guess my decision. My doctor has preformed hundreds of lap band surgeries, and if one actually helped his patients lose weight faster, it would be in his best interest to recommend it, so I do believe that I could be equally successful with either band.

What I liked about the Realize Band was the size and shape of the port and how it attached to the muscle wall with metal anchors, so hopefully it will be more comfortable in the long run and have less chance to flip. I also found the pillow system on the Realize Band to be superior for my needs. The pillows were softer, and with the low pressure, I felt it would be less likely to erode or to cause slippage.

I really wouldn't fret too much over the which band to use though, because they preform the same function.

I got the Lap Band because I'm in the BAND3035 study and had no choice. At least I got the most current one with the low profile port!

I think you were talking to me. I have continued to say no to bread, potatoes, rice adn Pasta. I keep my food record on www.sparkpeople.com and I average 1000 - 1100 calories per day. I have started to the gym. i've gone twice and I am getting ready to go now. I watch my carbs. I have been doing pretty good with the bandsters guidelines. I posted the guidelines I have been trying to follow on my blog. You can check it out there. I hope that helps. My first fill in next Tuesday!:):Dancing_biggrin::unsure:

My surgeon has opted to only implant the Realize Band system now, he had implanted the Lap Band before; however both are very similar, the Realize Band is just a newer band on the market and does have a very low profile port; apparently it also has some kind of nifty device for the surgeon to implant the port more efficiently and quickly during surgery. I had my surgery 10/31/08 and just had my first fill on 12/4/08.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
