Hello all, My name is Tia and I have my lap band scheduled for sept 15th. I will be going to bay bariatrics (Dr Tersgini) in Coos Bay Or.

I am so excited to have surgery and regain my health back! I go to my consult appts on the 12th of sept.

I have posted a few posts here previously and have been just reading and am so thrilled to go on this journey and share it with others and have them share with me. I currently weigh 265 and am only 5'2. I am dedicated and committed to using this as a tool to gain my life back and possibly save it!! I am excited to get into lap swimming when im able to go to full exercise. If you have any advise, or tips for me especially post op that would be awesome! I will also be speaking to my DR of course for my post op diet but I do know ill be on liquids for some time. I will be having the surgery monday and going back to work thursday. One of my concerns is drinking liquids that will give me as much nourishment as possible, so if anyone has any suggestions that would be great!! YAYAYAY

First off congratulations on your future banding. I was banded August 27th and am still on the liquids...here are my thoughts. Being on the liquids can be hard because I swear if I have anything that tastes like vanilla, strawberry or Tomato, I am gonna hurl! I had to get creative so I could tolerate the thought of one more Protein shake. UGH! So my friends and I went to the store and got some of the following: cream of anything Soup that I could put in the blender and make more liquid, Jello, maple yogurt (by brown cow), chocolate Protein powder (to add with Peanut Butter and milk), propel, diet snapple, pudding, lentil Soup (put in the blender), the usual vanilla yougurt, popsicles, crystal light, Tomato Soup (I cannot stand it anymore...), squash soup, lentil curry soup...I so can't wait til the puree stage next week so I can add some meat and variety to my diet. I have mixed chocolate Protein Powder in a light mocha frappacino and I have also used vanilla Protein powder in a fruit smoothie. I honestly don't know if you are supposed to do that, but desperate times call for desperate measures.

Good luck,

Chris:cool2:

Welcome! Is there any way you can get the week off of work? I am really very hardy and sturdy but honestly, I had my surgery on Friday and if I'd had to go work on Monday, I wouldn't have done a very good job. I totally bounce back quickly, come to fast (recovery room nurses always are in awe etc) and so on but this is major surgery. Aside from the physical soreness, it's easier to concentrate and so on if you give yourself a little more time.

That being said, I can also say to follow your doctor's post op diet to the letter. He may have a specific Protein (or a list to choose from) to drink, etc. Plus, we drink liquids not to jump start weight loss and so on (many seem to think this, at first) but because the stomach churns to help us digest. Normally we don't ever feel that (aren't our bodies miraculous?) but it does...and if you eat too soon you can tear the sutures holding your band. You won't feel it, you'll think you "got away with it", but down the road you can have erosion and slippage!

So my advice is to follow your doctor's orders to the letter! I was banded 8/29 and aside from being hungry, I am feeling wonderful. I already love my band!

I totally agree. Try to get that Thursday and Friday off as well. You will glad for the extra recuperation time. During the liquid stage, for Clear Liquids I found the New whey Protein bullets (42g) to be the easiest way to get my required Protein in. Each one is only 3 oz and has 42g of protein in it. You can get them at GNC. They have a tart flavor and are kind of thick, so some people mix it with sf tropical punch. I just drank it straight. 1oz consisted of maybe 3 sips, so it was easy. During the full liquid stage, I really liked cream of chicken Soup. I mixed it with skim milk instead of Water and added a little garlic powder, sage and pepper. It tasted so good, that my daughter took it to work for lunch!

Make sure when you move on to mushies that you even practice "chewing" that. I chew everything well and haven't pbed or slimed yet, thankfully.

Congratulations on your decision to change your life!

I am trying my best working with hr dept to see if I can get the full week off. If not thank goodness I have a desk job. I will find out on monday if the personal leave is approved for two days. Thank you all for your welcome and support, I am so excited! Thanks for the idea too on the food, seeing I need something convenient for work. I will be staying one night in the hospital on monday and driving home tuesday which will be a 4 hour drive lol. That should be fun :) I cannot wait to share my experiences with the group

I have been off work for two weeks. Not that I needed the full two weeks, but I just wanted the time off. Fortunately, I can get the time off. BUT of course all the things I thought I was going to do, scrapbook, clean, write, all went down the drain with naps and pureeing things.

Today however I went to the store to get my list of puree essentials. I am so excited. I cannot tolerate even one more liquid anything...Tomorrow I am totally pureeing chicken...I did get babyfood veggies as I decided it was too time consuming to stick stuff in the blender, plus it is totally grossing me out anyway. I figure if I just have to figure out how to make it taste good I am good to go!

Take care,

Chris

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
