Can I take asprin/ibuprophen prior to surgery?

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone -

I'm scheduled for surgery on 9/11. Should I be avoiding asprin, ibuprophen, etc? I have a cold and have been taking both. I don't remember my doctor saying anything about this, and there isn't any info in the paperwork I have.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Hi, I'm glad you ask. I was told emphatically, Tylenol only. No aspirin, no Aleve no anything that has aspirin. Stick to Tylenol. This has to do with anesthesia. Wishing you super good luck on your surgery and recovery. I just had mine on Sept. 4th and it went very, very, very well.

As the others have stated you shouldn't be taking either of the two medications you've listed for two weeks before the surgery. Personally I would call the doctor's office and let them know. It might delay the surgery but will be better for you in the long run since they are both blood thinners and could complicate things.

My Doc's info list says I can take Tylenol and nothing else. But it didn't mention aspirin.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
