lapband=deceit and bullsh**t

Recommended Posts

Big deal is saying the lapband is deceit and bullshit. It's not. I urge you to find one piece of literature that says the band does everything for you, that you will never be hungry again and that weight loss is guaranteed with no effort on your part.

:sad:Let's move beyond personal attacks. I apologize for putting into text my opinions about drstan's punctuation and grammar. I should have stuck with my first instinct and kept it to myself. We have no way of knowing what all is REALLY going on behind any member's keyboard. Yes, the title of this thread is inflammatory and extreme, but it was no doubt written out of exasperation and frustration. Perhaps, if it was possible, drstan would go back and modify the title.

We are all passionate about our bands, and jumping to defend them and their effectiveness is admirable and understandable. Confront the misconceptions, but let's leave direct, personal attacks out of it. Please.

drstan- I don't know if you're a "troll" or not, but if you're sincere, I urge you to try reading more about lapband. It will help with hunger. But you need to eat the right things in the right way. Also, two fills? Some people it really works it's magic in two fills, for some, like me, it takes five. You really need to be working WITH your doctor. I promise they're not interested in you failing. After two fills, I still was hungry. Don't give up because you lack the patience and follow through. Giving up is what made you fat.

who is suggesting you change surgeon? just 1 case of a dissapointed patient happens sometimes dr. felding was very elegant and informative. the only thing i am saying that hunger is still a problem for me i was under the impression hunger would go away maybe it was what i wanted to hear.

Given the title of your thread and your first entry, it didn't appear that support was what you were hoping to achieve. I did read some of your previous posts and you seemed happy and supportive just earlier this summer. I'm sorry that you're going through a rough time right now. Perhaps you still haven't reached your 'sweet spot' yet and need another fill. You really didn't have that much weight to lose to begin with if it was only 35 pounds, this band was really designed for obese people. But regardless, you need to do your part as well. You made an investment whether financially or physically, you still have to invest your self emotionally and psychologically. Don't give up now.

Dr. Stan,

As stubborn as I am, I probably would have gone ahead and gotten the lap band even if I knew every single detail prior to banding. But I did get it and it is not what I expected and I tried to figure out what was going on and after months of searching here just realized it was not for me. If it's not for me it's probably something that is not for others as well. I am getting mine removed in the near future as soon as my surgeon and I can arrange things.

It's understandable that you are angry, for many reasons but it will not go over well here as people here are not interested in hearing "band bashing". So don't be surprised if you don't get the response that you thought you'd get and good luck with your health, Nancy.

Wow, the trolls are coming out in droves here lately. Can anyone else help me say WTH??? Ugh...

Trolls please stop trying to stir up trouble a go away unless you have something sensible to say.

save the troll bullshit.

Ok, glad you're going to stay. Cool. But if you are serious about losing the weight, maybe take special note of your attitude.

An analogy would be if I went on a dental forum and loudly proclaimed that Flouride is deciet and bullsh**t, and that it didn't work for me.

See, there is a legitimate debate to be had there (in your case with the band as well), but it's all in the way you present yaself.

But, plain, everyone knows that flouride is a communist plot! Where have you been? :tt2:

Anyway, when it comes to the band and hunger, the band does not change plasma ghrelin levels as some of the other WLS types do, so all hunger control comes from getting proper restriction. If you are hungry, you either have head hunger or you haven't got proper restriction.

This is actually the main reason that I decided against the band in the end. The *only* reason I want WLS is for hunger control. I'm not going to pick a WLS type that has the iffiest hunger control if that's my main problem. I'm just glad I figured this out *before* I got a band.

I don't think that means the band is deceit and bullshit though. It works how it works and how it works works for many people. But no WLS works for everyone and therefore the band isn't going to work for anyone.

That is great! So did you discuss your feelings with Fielding or another staff member at NYU? I'm just curious what your experience with them was like.

Good Luck. I am happy for you and hope you achieve success.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

So proud of you Cat. Getting into those smaller size clothes is half the fun isn't it?. Keep up the good work!!!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
