Realize band implanted on 8/26/08 - New York

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I am a new patient on my third day post-op. I just got past my *gassy* stage. (That was rough). I'm still a little gassy, but it is nothing at this point. I am very sore and tender at my port site (as expected). Here's my surgery day story:

When I first awoke in recovery, I said, "Oh, this ain't so bad". Ten seconds later...I was writhing in pain from gas pains in my chest. I honestly thought my heart was going to burst from the pressure. I asked if I could walk around, but the nurses said that I couldn't just yet. (As groggy as I was, I don't blame them, but the gas pain was so intense that I did not care). The nurses asked me if I think I could walk and I replied, "I don't have a choice. This hurts". They immediately called a doctor and told them I was eager to start walking and before I knew it, I had my own room.

I felt weak (due to anesthesia and surgical trauma), but I walked the length of the corridor forth and back once. I belched so hard that I thought I would pass out...but it was a bit relieving, then again, not so relieving when I discovered that I had to keep on moving and burping just to feel relief.

Fast forward to today. The gas is almost dissipated or expelled and I feel pretty good.

My homework was done to a reasonable extent when choosing between the Lap Band and the Realize Band. My surgeon explained to me that there was no significant difference in results between the two, except the Realize Band has a slightly flatter port and it maybe takes about 10 minutes less to install/implant. I chose the Realize Band.

My doctor is Dr. P. Shah in NYC.

Thanks for the welcome. I forgot. My mother gave me her heating pad to use on my shoulder and it worked well. I also have a back massager that I bought from BJ's years ago that helped me so, so much.

Oh, okay. I had sutures and Steri-strips (butterfly tape). I wish I could jump into my hot tub with my wife.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
