Momto5~

I go in for my fill on Sept 3rd. I will let you know how it goes! I hope I have more restriction - I have been hungry and that is not good for my. I have been using all my will power not to cave in and just eat!

Hey everyone!

I was banded August 4th and got my first fill last Tuesday (Doc is on vacation this week so I was able to get an early fill.) By then the post surgery restriction was completely gone and the hunger came back with a vengeance. I thought the fill would curb that but it did not. I have hunger PAINS... I mean it hurts. I feel worse right now than the day after surgery. I am still losing weight, although it has slowed. Right now my stomach and I are having a "tug of war" but I refuse to "fall off the wagon" and feed it like I used to. I just wish the hunger would take a vacation. I have to wait until Sept. 23 for my second fill. It is going to be a long three weeks!

HELP, I was banded on Aug. 5th and the first week I was home I thought this was the best thing on earth. I wasn't hungry I could eat my broth and juices, Water and didn't feel pressure or pain. Now I'm beginning to wonder if the doctor left my band out!!!

I can eat anything I want and never get full. Its almost like I haven't had anything done at all. What is wrong? I know I haven't over eaten and stretched my pouch, or I dont think so. I haven't been sick. When I get hungry I can eat just like I use to, or at least almost the same size portions. I dont feel like I have any restrictions at all.

Some of my friends that have had it done say they can't eat much more than a table spoon or so when they moved from soft foods to regular foods but even in the hospital I could eat more than they did. My meals in the hospital were a cup of Jello, a bowl of broth, a glass of apple juice and some hot tea, I was able to eat it all at one time with no problem.

How do I know if something is wrong with my band?

So sorry to hear you are so hungry. I was banded Aug. 4th. During surgery my Dr. put 2 cc's in my band. I had to return 4 days later and he removed 1cc. I went back Aug. 26th and he put in 4cc's, which now gives me 5ccs. I can eat anything, I noticed yesterday that I'm feeling more hungry. So...I am trying to eat very small amount several times a day so I won't overeat all at once.

Hi PJ... My band was put in dry and at my first fill I got 1cc... but there are different sized bands so I guess it all depends on how big your band is to begin with. I will make certain on my next visit, but I think I only have a 4cc band.

I have always wondered why they use different size bands. Do you know. When I had my last fill, Dr told me I had a 10cc size band. I ate 1/2 cup of Rice Krispies this morning at 8:30 and I am very hungry now.

I have to wait until the 23rd for another fill. Felt great for 3 days after fill, started feeling hungry sooner yesterday.

Congrats on the weightloss bambam31! Do you feel any restriction at all? What was the process like? Did it hurt and does it hurt now? I'm a bit anxious about getting a fill because I don't know what to expect...any light you could shed w/b appreciated.

I was told my pouch would only hold 4oz. Nutritionist told me to eat 1/2 cup per meal. Dr that did my fill told me to keep food amount the size of my fist.

PJ..... I don't know why they use different bands. I had even saw one post on the site somewhere where a bandster mentioned her doc let her choose which band she wanted. I'm certain there's a method to the madness. I'll try and remember to ask my doc why when I see him next. It's strange how some docs do different things. Some fill at time of surgery and others won't fill until 4 - 6 weeks after surgery.... :)

Innotu... Thanks for the compliment. I do have some restriction - just not a lot. What I'm finding is I have to eat small amounts - but very frequently - otherwise the pain from hunger is... well... painfull. My fill was simple... Doc had me lie on my back and crunch my stomach muscles. Then he used a couple of fingers to poke and prod until he found the port. Then he had me do a leg lift and hold it... little poke... all done. It was very simple and the poke was very minor. Now... My sister-in-law on the other hand.... She has a different surgeon from the same office and hers was not so easy. I don't know how much she exagerated, but she said he poked her like 30 times trying to hit the port. They eventually used an ultrasound to find it. She was very sore and bruised from the event. So just like everything else... YMMV...

Flem... Congrats on your progress! It's hard to keep those portions small when your still hungry. I hope your fill fills you up!

on the diff size bands they use. i was told that somepeople had a bigger round the stoma. where they put the band then others. so some people will require bigger bands. like the realize band. it is smaller in lenght then the normal lap band. so when it gets pu ton, its already giving you alittle restence. and thats why its only a 9cc band and the other lap band is a 10cc band.

its funny your doctor put some fill in your band when installed. because you are swallon from the surgery and you shouldnt need it. thats why most docotrs wait until 6 weeks out to do a fill. they want you to heal first. but every doctor dont think the same i guess.

Sadly Patience is Required

I was banded in August 2007, I started off at 224, I lost weight quickly initially (thanks to the post op diet). After the initial healing, I had no restriction (or very little) I went back for several fills, and finally by early February I had found my "sweet spot". For me it was 7cc's. Once I hit that I actually felt that band was working.

The scary thing is that now I am totally unfilled (and will be for 5 more weeks) due to TT surgery. I hope it doesn't take until February again to get proper restriction.

Hang in there folks.............it will happen!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
