Any October Bandsters!??!?!

Recommended Posts

My husband is hoping for an October banding. We have seen the dietican and this weekend sees the Psych - waiting for insurance approval (Medicaid). He has been waiting for this for some time. Put it off a couple of years ago, but really needs it now. His knees hurt sooooooo bad. He is at 415 lbs. His bmi is 60 (the limit) - trying to lose some weight right now. Starting to practice chewing 20 times and not drinking while eating.

Hi Cassie! Looks like you are manuevering around the site pretty well. I accepted your friend request so hopefully you got it since I have no clue as to what I'm doing on here. lol... Reminds me of when I first opened a myspace account. :w00t:

When I first found this site and started reading I was having a lot of doubts about surgery. I have since decided to experience my own journey b/c everyones body/experiences are vastly different. So...now I am at least not driving myself insane but am still very nervous and think about surgery every day. I'm hoping this is normal. :tt2:

I'm so glad you started this thread!:biggrin::mellow::biggrin::cool2:

My pleasure! I know what you are saying about the myspace thing! LOL! I feel the same way. I have been doing lots of research on this and have found the the inner strength is waht keeps you going. I have also read like two books this week about weight loss surgery and am working on my third now. They have really helped me with everything both mentally and physically. The first was Before and After by Susan Maria Leach. She had Gastric, but she is very uplifting and I really got some good inforation from her. The second was, The patient's Guide to Weight Loss Surgery. I really didn't like that book too much and there were some horror stories in it. But I guess better to know than not. And now I am on Weightloss Surgery with the Adjustable Band. This is the only book on the market about adjustable band I so far so good. It just came out two days ago.

I am hopeing to be banded in October. I have my 5th of 6 medically supervised Dr. appointments today. I have an appointment scheduled for Sept. 9 with the surgeon, nurse and financial agent. Sept. 12 I have an appointment with the psychologist. I am hoping for an October surgery date. I've been told it takes about 30 days for the insurance to review and approve. My BMI is 40.2, 216 lbs and I'm only 5' 1". I would love to have surgery at the end of September but I'm trying to just focus on it taking a little more time. If it happens earlier, I will be thrilled.

I'm now officially an October Bandster! October 2! I have my pre-op class on Tuesday, Sept 2! I'm nervous now! I've already lost the 16 lbs that were required so I should be good to go on October 2!!!

I have a question everybody. I am going to start my preop diet a bit earlier but im not sure if im doing it right. I was told wat I should eat but I can only get in about 600 cal daily. Today I had 2 slim fast, broth and a nutrigrain bar. I can't eat anything else because im just not hungry. Is it a good or bad thing? What should I do?

why are you starting so early? being on a liquid diet isn't terribly healthy to begin with and doing it longer certainly isn't good. Did your doctor advise you start earlier?

There was a bit of a mixup. They have my weight recorded as 10lbs less than I am. At the weight they have me as, my diet is for 10 days but with my real weight it would be a longer diet.

I am a little concerned with your 600 calorie intake? When I was 9 I was put on a 1,000 calorie diet and even then it was not enough. I think that you should call your doctor. 600 calories just seems like it would not be enough to get all of the nutrients that you need to stay healthy. I would hate for you to be too sick from malnutirtion to have the surgery. Let us know what he says...

It's official...I searched this board and I, Heather, am the ONE person doing a 6 week liquid diet. 800 calories a day, Optifast...nothing but splenda and extracts. I'm so jealous of all you 2 week diet people. Nah...actually I'm "sort of" glad, because 6 weeks will be enough time to prove to myself that I can do it, plus I'll lose a lot of weight prior to surgery....but still....

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
