Females - Surgery questions...

Recommended Posts

I have been wondering two things:

1. Do we have to get a catheter for the banding operation?

2. Do you wear underwear during the operation/what if TOM is here??

Thanks!

Amy

When I had surgery.. I could only wear the gown. Thankfully, I wasn't cath'd either. From reading other posts on here, people have said that the hospital will provide you with some protection if you have your period on surgery day.

No catheter for me, but I did have my period. I had to wear some glorious mesh panties and a pad. The mesh panties are required in case they need to catheterize you in an emergency.

My surgeon does do a cath, I don't think they let you keep you panties, but do let them know when you get there or call the day before it never hurts to ask. All they can do is say no and tell you how to keep sanitary during the procedure even with the extra visitor. They don't want any other fluids to deal with either but you have to let them know.

I only wore a gown

No Cath

was told to wear a tampon (for TOM) and to let them know so they could remind me to change it when I got up. (This was a non issue for me since I had a hyster the year before)

It sounds like all docs/clinics have personal preferences, calling your own clinic is best, at least you know the broad scope of answers to expect.

Good Luck, you are gonna love your band

No cath for me. The nurse had told me I could wear my undies until I went in for surgery (I had a little wait)....but I forgot to take them off before surgery.....needless to say they gave them to me in a little baggy after surgery. I was so embarrassed.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
