Banded 7/29 GUILTY!!! and hating myself!!!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone...I am not proud of myself today! I had a set back and I allowed my emotions to take over and I went with a friend to a hot dog joint and had a greasy spinach pie and cheeze fries. :cool2::cursing::confused2::cursing::tt2::)

I am very upset with myself. I was banded 7/29 ...9 days out and I let myself do this....and the thing is ....I have no restriction at all yet and nothing happened.....accept having to go to uh em...the washroom.... I was waiting just hoping that something would kick in and nothing at all! If I am going to do this for me I cannot do this to myself. HELP!!!! Im not ashamed to say I need encouragement n advice!!! I need a good kick in the @$$!!! :w00t: Debbie

I hope that you feel a little better. I was told that it is common to gain some weight before a fill because usually we don't have any restriction yet. Were you cleared to move on to mushies or solids yet? I was banded on the 30th and I am still on liquids for another week. If so, remember that even tho it was a poor food choice, we aren't going to be perfect when it comes to food over night. My best friend who is getting banded in September has decided that he will only go out to eat with me for a while after the surgery and I decided that it was a good idea ( aside from my family who will also help me remember to make good choices). That way we can keep each other accountable for our choices, and share plates! Don't beat yourself up too bad, what is done is done.

try not to be so upset with yourself. slips will happen and we will make poor choices from time to time. tomorrow is a new day and overeating/making the occasional poor choice isn't the end of the world. everyone (even skinny folks) do it from time to time.

i think the most important thing is how you respond to the slip up -- remember to treat yourself with love and compassion and then working to understand what triggered the slip.

if you can identify the trigger (boredom, trying to numb yourself to negative emotions, feeling deprived, resentful, fearful, etc) it maybe easier to avoid in the future.

The reason you aren't supposed to eat a lot of food in the first weeks after surgery isn't really about weight loss. It's about allowing yourself to heal. You most likely have some internal stitches that need to heal. By eating too much you put stress on those stitches and can hurt yourself.

If your doctor told you to eat liquids or mushy food, listen to him/her. If you are allowed to eat regular food, take it easy for a few weeks.

Please remember, you might not feel restriction, but at only 9 days out, you are still healing. You need to be on full liquids for at least another week and then to mushies. Your stomach is not healing if it has to digest that food. I wanted to eat also but I keep telling myself that I paid alot of money for this and I HAVE to change my habits. You have to work with the band. The band can't do all the work for you. Go back to full liquids and give your stomach more time to heal. Good luck.

Sorry, Debski, I'm not going to be as gentle as others. When I read your post, all I could think is OMG! Do you realize the damage you could do to your stomach and your band? You've got to get a grip, you've got a long journey ahead of you and the band is not going to do the work for you, it's a tool to help you make better choices.

I realize what's done is done, but you have to respect your band.

OK, with that said, today's a new day, take charge and I wish you the best on your journey.

YOU CAN DO IT!

I'm also not going to go gently on you, but I will give you a really warm and inspiring quote at the end!

Shame on you! You know how much this surgery cost you, not only in money, but in risk to your life (anesthesia, etc). Let your body heal! Have a serious talk with your head about the difference between head hunger and actual hunger. Don't just depend on fills to keep you on track...you gotta work on the lifestyle too.

Ok, that's enough of the harshness. Here's few lines that one of my fellows wrote on a goals board and I'm leaning on it every single day!

This is a journey and I will reach goal in my own time in my own way. I have a very valuable tool to help me get to where I want to be!:) Along the way I will love myself.

Bella has a great answer. Just work with your band. 1st and foremost you must heal.... You must take care of your band and yourself.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
