Makeup During Procedure?

Recommended Posts

So, where everyone has the NORMAL concerns about preop diets and surviving the whole ordeal. My question is "can I wear makeup during surgery"? Yes . . . I'm THAT shallow!!!!

No you can't. I wondered about the same thing, but they said NO. During the procedure they have use tape to secure your eyelids shut and the breathing tube, etc, so wearing makeup wouldn't be good. Plus there is the issue of having a sterile environment.

When I woke up from surgery, before we left, I had to at least but my mineral foundation on, some mascara, and some lip gloss. I am one of those that puts on make up before doing anything else, so I know how you feel in that regard.

Just wait until after surgery, then fix yourself up. It will do wonders for your spirit in making you feel better; it did for me anyway.

Best wishes,

Stephanie

They also watch your lips and eyelids especially for color change during the operation, it gives early indication of oxygen issues. That is also why you have to have at least one finger nail natural and without any polish they told me!

Going out without make up is not an issue. But during my last surgery---my tummy tuck---they called to do the pre registration the day before, and told me I could not have either finger nail or toe nail polish! I had just had a pedicure----not a cheap one it ended up either!!! I ask if I could just remove it from one toe!!! I thought I could redo it without messing up the pedi! In the end my surgeon said toe nails could stay, but nothing on my fingernails!!!

Don't you know they think we are nuts!!!

I don't know about your Dr. but I had to wash with anti-bacterial soap all over the mid section & couldn't even wear deodorant.

Nothing at all! :crying:

I was fine, as soon as I could maneuver I put some on.

lol... I almost freaked yesterday when they told me no make up at my pre op class. When I went into labor with each of my 3 sons, I still took a shower and put on make up so I would look good.

The nurse told me she knows how I feel and that maybe a little blush wouldn't hurt and just don't wash off mascara from night before so I still have a little bit left over. No polish on fingers or toes at all. The gel and hairspray to fix your hair is ok though.

I can tell you I am that shallow and I wore my mineral makeup to my surgery. That was an issue my doctor never discussed and I sure didn't bring it up. I did my hair too!

I was told no makeup and no deodorant. I was allowed toe and nail polish, as long as at least one nail was left unpolished. I took off all my polish on my fingernails so that I wouldn't look like I just forgot to finish my manicure.

Thanks for the replies! I did go without makeup, but I did leave my fake nails on (French manicure). The said OK to nail polish on my toes (pretty pink) and my acrylic nails (they're french style - look natural). Everything went great! Just trying to get in all those fluids and Protein Shakes. I have an ON-Q catheter that I came home with plugged into my port. Helps manage the port pain pretty good.

Whoo...oh! :) I got scared there for a minute. I thought you were going to tell me I HAD to wear makeup for the procedure.

Never done that before. Unless clown makeup counts?!?:wink2:

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
