Why are we not suppose to take asprin?

Or other pain medications... I have to admit I probably take tylenol at least once a day due to headaches. Is that something to be concerned about? Will it hurt my band?

So, does this mean that aspirin therapy would not be good for bandsters?

Forever?

Over and over on the news, they say 2 baby aspirin a day is good for heart health.

I have chronic knee pain and just last week when I went to the surgeon for my first fill we talked about it. I told him I was taking liquid Tyelnol which did not touch the pain, he said to take liquid children's Motrin (does it make it okay because it is liquid form or perhaps children form?).

It helps that it is liquid form because it flows on through the pouch. Any type of drug 'sitting' above the band could help precipitate erosion of the tissues in the area. Some such drugs are more prone to do this than others but it makes sense that anything sitting in the pouch too long could eventually cause erosions/ulcerations etc. To be sure, try to always drink PLENTY of Water to wash any medications on through to the lower stomach. :)

Please consult your band Doc. re: any meds. Mine says an occasional Advil Liquigel (or children's liquid) is fine. He says it's not for everyday pain management. Actually, it's the only thing that touched my shoulder pain following banding. Again, check with your doctor! By the way, a chiropractor has done wonders for my headaches.

I was prescribed Vicodin/Hydrocodone 7.5 a few months ago for migranes I was getting. Is it still safe to take? I didn't see it on either list...

What will those medications do to your band?

We have discussed this on here a few times before and I just don't want anyone getting freaked out over it.

I HAVE to take Naprocyn right now or I get extremely fatigued, and all of the tissues in my neck, shoulders, chest, and back get very inflamed. I also have problems with my heart racing, and also get dizzy and headachy. If I don't take it for now, my life is like a living hell. I literally become a zombie of pain and a shell of myself. (And no, I'm not exaggerating.)

The goal is to not take any NSAIDS if at all possible. But sometimes things happen and it cannot be avoided. When that happens, you need to consult with your surgeon and other doctors (in my case my heart doctor, and soon my Rheumatologist too) and see if an alternative is available. In my case there's just not another option for right now.

So again, the goal is to always play it safe and smart and try to avoid taking them, but if it's not avoidable, then well, it's just not.

I try to drink a lot of Water with my pills, and am using some Aloe Vera juice to help heal any ulcers that may have formed in my stomach as a result of being on this medication.

And please know that I'm not advising anyone to be reckless and take tons of NSAIDS, I'm just saying that sometimes we have to when there's no other option. And when that happens, don't flip out over it, just do your part to minimize the ramifications (if any) to your pouch.

I hope this helps everyone to understand the thinking/reasoning behind this theory. When worst comes to worst you gotta do what you gotta do.

s xanax ok... i saw anaprox on the no list and i think that is the generic

I take Xananx and anaprox is not the generic for xanax ...Alprazolam is the generic name for it.

Vicodin is OK to take it has Acetaminophen in it which is basically the same thing in tylenol there are no NSAID's in Vicodin

NSAID"S can cause gastritis which can lead to have your band unfilled until you heal. They can also cause ulcers which will also cause gastritis.

Gastritis is not a single disease, but several different conditions that all have inflammation of the stomach lining. Gastritis can be caused by drinking too much alcohol, prolonged use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as aspirin or ibuprofen,

So ok, is it bad I totally forgot that we were supposed to be taking Ibuprofen. I am almost 7 months out and forgot. I had some really bad neck and back pain from sleeping the wrong way and took it for 2 days. Oh well, I drank lots of Water so it didn't get stuck ...I just can't believe I totally forgot about it.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
