Long Haul Flights - Band Fills

Recommended Posts

Morning Fellow Bandsters

I was wondering if anyone had any information on travelling with band fills.

I am due to have my first band fill on the 9th of August, but due to go to america on the 2nd September, the flight is for 10 hours. I so want my fill as seriously hungry now, and dont want to wait after my holiday.

Any advise would be appreicated.

Just personally, I dont think holidays etc ought to set the parameters for your fills. You need a fill when you need it and I would rather go on holiday well restricted, just to a good level, not tight, but I try to no longer think of holidays in terms of eating binges, lol.

I'm having this argument with DH. He's put off his second fill (and he's not losing that well on the first) till after a business dinner on the 25th. I'm like WTF? Its a set menu, its only food, it wont be that darn good and nobody cares what you eat anyway. Why on earth wait?

But he's paranoid about disgracing himself, lol. He's not used to banded life yet.

I'd get a fill now if I were you, but there's also valid reasons for not, as others will probably point out.

Hiya Debbie...

I think you should get your fill done on the 9th.. especially as its your first one and you are hungry. As you know I havent been filled yet but from all I have read its only very restrictive for the first few days then settles down so by the time of your hol it should be great. Also you will have no worries in America... they are so up with people and gastric bands that if your long haul flight does tighten you band to uncomfortable level you will have no prob getting a little de fill over there. I am sure all will be fine and you can have child portions all hol!!!!

just had my band fitted and the specialist lap band nurse told me your band must not be at its limit fill when travelling long haul flights that you have to have some taken out for pressure reasons, so i think you will be fine if its not totally full, sorry new to site hop you get this info

I had my first fill yesterday and have no restriction at all and feel very disappointed. I was hoping he would have put more than 2ml in the band but he was cautious when I had it done under Xray and barium drink.

Hi guys,

I don't mean to be negative on this subject, but I think you would be VERY lucky to feel restriction after your first fill. Looking at most people stats on here, most take a number of fills to feel anything like proper restriction.

I had my first fill about 3 weeks ago, 5ccs in an 11cc band & it feels no different at all, apart from when I have meat/bread & I then I need to be really, really careful & chew!! But I could still eat for England! I just have to be strong & not! I've put myself on a self-imposed liquid Slimfast diet, cos I know that, if I try & eat "normal" food, I'll overeat. So I'm having shakes, Soups & a bit of fruit & yoghurt. Its made the pounds drop off, like the pre-op diet did.

But I wouldn't worry about your holiday! Just enjoy it. I went away for 5 days in June, ate 3 times a day, each time fairly normal meals & got back the same weight as I went. As long as you enjoy the hol, you can always work extra hard for a couple of weeks when you get back! I figure I have earned a "break" & try not to stress about it! Beating myself up means I feel like I've failed & I'm more inclined to be "naughty"!!!

I have my next apppointment at the beginning of Sept but this is just a follow up. If I need a fill I hope I don`t need it under Xray again as that means another wait. I am off on holiday at the end of Sept and had hoped to have lost weight. I swim daily to tone myself up but I am struggling to diet.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
