bowel movements 3 days after surgery

Recommended Posts

Hi

I'm at 3 days in after my surgery and have not had a bowel movement since the day before I went in to he hospital . I'm guessing it 's because of all the liquids is this normal?

how long does it go on for?

thanx so much

Are you still on paid meds? Clear or full liquids? If you are on full liquids and have been taking pain meds, that could be the cause. You should still be moving some, even a little, as your body processes different things. Pain medication can cause Constipation - even without realizing it. Try adding Fiber to your liquids, too.

It took me about 3 days as well for a b.m., and then it was diarrhea for 3 days. With liquids and pain meds, it's normal. I ate about 4 oz. of SF Jello during the course of my 5th or 6th day, and then it was 3 more days before I had another b.m. Then it finally came in solid form. Just be patient with your body. Being so overweight, I was used to having 3-4 bm's a day, so I kind of appreciate the respite from all that stuff during the first few weeks after surgery.

I had the same problem after LB surgery and I am never constipated. It was awful. Went to the doctor and he gave me a RX for some tastless fiber to put in a drink in the morning. It really is tastless too. That has helped a lot. I am now back to normal for the most part. I just wanted to let you know that you are not the only one who has had this problem.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
