Does anyone else get UTI's when they have sex?

Recommended Posts

The urologist put me on the low dose of anti biotics because I would get the UTI and as son as I finished the medicine, I would get another one.

I will ck out some of those herbal remedies. I would do anything to get rid of them for good. I have to be careful though. Sometimes some herbs are not good for the liver and I have to make sure whatever I take isn't harmful to the liver. I remember for awhile I took (sp?)

acidophilous and that seemed to help. Garlic would certainly be easy to take. I take so much stuff now, that it's hard to get it all down.

Sometimes pills aren't all that easy to get down with the band.

Oh, Denise, I feel your pain. I had such a time with the UTIs for a long while. I finally had to take quite a bit of cranberry extract every single day (still do) and I think the most helpful thing was using wipes during/before sex. We change positions a lot and when we looked at things that might be causing all the UTIs, we finally thought that maybe it was worse when we were changing positions--esp. going from me on bottom (liquid goes down toward the bacteria) to me on top (bacteria + liquid go back towards urethra). So we started wiping with those sanitary wipes (like baby wipes for adults) every time we changed positions. At first it was a pain, but it really helps and now it's totally habit. It reduced the frequency of the UTIs a lot--I was on the verge of going on full-time antibiotics as well, and I didn't want to do that because of risk of getting resistant bacteria.

BBK, I also have problems with BV which is what you are describing--yep, it's the pH, and guys with high sperm counts especially have relatively alkaline (high pH) semen which causes more problems for us. I used the boric acid suppositories but they didn't seem to help much. But I wanted to let you know that you don't have to take oral flagyl (metronidazole)--you can either take vaginal flagyl ointment for 7 days, or clindamyacin (Clindesse) vaginal for ONE day. So much better than weeks of not being able to drink alcohol! And do have your hubby treated with flagyl too--even though he doesn't have symptoms, he can still be passing it back to you. That does help as well. It's such a pain.

Denise-

I noticed that you said you had a problem with them even when you were not sexually active. That sounds like what I used to have. It was fixed when doc looked at UT on xray (like barium swallow). It showed that I had a pocket in the tubing where urine would collect and fester - it is a rare form of diverticulitis (sp) which is usually in the intestinal tract. Anyway, I know you said the doc had looked at your bladder but if he did not look at the UT this might be worth checking out as I have had one UTI in the 8 years since surgery (which is a simple day procedure).

Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention. I will ask the dr. about that. I am not wanting them to look inside my bladder again.

How did they do the test? You said like a barium swallow, but I don't get how they can see where they need to see after swallowing barium.

All these tests are so expensive and my insurance has a $1,000 deductible.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

I may have to have gall bladder surgery during my weight loss surgery. Not thrilled about it either but do not want 2 recovery times. Just want it over with.

Thanks for your post. I may need to rethink my decision... :(
