Hi evryone. I thought I read somewhere that we are not supposed to chew gum. Is that correct? If so...why? Thanks. :biggrin2:

It works air into your pouch as you chew. Also, think about if you happen to accidently swallow it......don't know if it would pass thru easily. I gave it up and changed to sugar free mints

Same thing, because if you swallow it it could get really stuck and require removal. I didn't know wbout the air in the pouch though, interesting.

Yeah, my doctor said not to risk it...accidentally swallowing it could caus some serious issues.

Oh man that sucks because right now it's the only thing keeping me from smoking. I guess I have to find a favorite mint now.

I chewed gum in front of my doctor as well. He didn't say anything. I have to during those pesky ketosis times when your breath becomes horrendous. Although I freaked out when I jumped in the pool for Water aerobics and was jumping up and down, doing my thing with gum in my mouth. Usually I am SO CAREFUL. That was not smart.

You are not suppose to chew gum the reason I was told is that if you accidently swallowed it it could block up the hole to your stomach.

I do not understand that gum rule, I have never in my life accidentally swallowed a piece of gum, why would I start now. Once I get my braces off, I am looking forward to having that little helper to get through some of the tough temptation times.

Glad to know some of you chew without fear!

Lanie

i confess ... i am a gum swallower!! i have been all my life! If it goes in my mouth and i chew it, i swallow it. i don't even think about it ... i just do it.

This is the reason i have not chewed gum since i have been banded ... actually no ... once i did but then i remembered i have a band and i spat it out before it was even fully chewed.

i envy those who can chew with no problem and without fear of swallowing ... i do like gum.

i am very much a mints girl now ...

I love to chew gum too and this will be a hard habit to break for me as well. I don't swallow my gum but occassionally have accidentally had it go down when laughing too much with coworkers during those late night hours trying to stay awake til the end of my shift.

Besides the complications that may arise with the band related to swallowing gum and the gas build up that goes along with it, I guess giving up that habit will also teach me that I don't always have to be putting something in my mouth.

yeah....the gas build up is a problem. I didn't notice it right away, but there is definitely a correlation.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
