Question about Heavy Cream

Recommended Posts

Okay so you know the heavy cream you get in stores and you mix up in a blender etc to make whipped cream? Well I use heavy cream and mix syrups with it and blend it in my magic bullet to make different flavor mouses.

So the question is: Can you use half and half or something besides heavy cream to make the mouse, because heavy cream is rather fattening and has lots of calories...please let me know. Thanks.

Hmmm...good question.

The fat is what makes the consistancy. I've used other low fat dairy in recipies and they didn't turn out good.

Fat isn't that bad...and a dessert every once in a while isn't going to hurt anything.

A while back I switched from sugar to fat...as in go natural w/ fat and avoid things that have fat taken out and sugar replaced.

Butter, whipped cream, etc. My body processes fat better than sugar.

Have you tried any of the sugar free puddings? I know not the same thing, you must be a gourmet chef. When my daughter was doing her shakes and only had vanilla I bought her all the flavorings they had in the spice isle. Nothing is better than the real deal but you sound creative. There is a contraction that turns skim milk into a whipped cream consistency is that what you have?

It's a recipe that comes with my magic bullet, but I wanted to know if there was something I could subsitute the heavy whipping cream with, because it's fattening and it still make the fluffy mouse. I like the fluffyness hehe

Froggie,

I had to check it out, I have something similar but it's a small food processor with a bullet attachment for smoothies etc...

I don't know if you can whip up half and half, I think you need the fat content to do it but you can always try.

They make a fat free cool whip and a sugar free cool whip, once you start experimenting with other things you'll find a good substitute for the "real mousse". They make an instant pudding that's sugar free and it's not that bad and also I think I've seen an instant mouse in the grocery store that is sugar free. Now it's not perfect but it's probably the closest thing you'll get to the same consistency and probably just need to wisk it.

This is my expertize!!

YES!

Actually, you can whip skim milk. Freeze beaters and metal bowl. Pour in skim milk and whip away.

Can also be done with 1%.

Heavy cream is nothing but saturated fat. No nutritional value and nasty for the arteries.

Have fun experimenting!

The bowl can be ceramic, it just has to be COLD (plastic doesn't work)

The mousse made with milk won't stay as whipped as cream, it will flatten after a couple of hours, but you can certainly whip it into a decent foam.

I'll have to look up a magic bullet, but if it will whip cream, then it will whip milk.

Thanks for the advice Phoenix. I'll have to try using milk the next time I make some.:)

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
