Not Going To Make It

Recommended Posts

Hello Fellow June Bandsters!

I am on day 3 of my pre-op diet, Surgery is Friday June 6th, and I don't think I'm going to make it. I'm SOOOOO hungry, my head is killing me, I'm exhausted and the Protein Drinks are making me sick! What do I do? I want food... something to take away this terrible headache.

Sorry, I don't mean to sound like a cry-baby but my head is killing me and I can't seem to get these Protein Shakes down.

Help! Any suggestions? If I just need to suck it up and deal with it... tell me that... LOL! Maybe I just need some encourangement... (or food...lol)

~Marie~

Hang in there... and call your doctor tell them what is going on. I called after a week of headaches and this is what they said to me!

"Didn't we tell you that if you got really hungry you could have something high protien/low fat?"

Of course I was HELL NO! you did not mention anything of the sort!

They should be able to give you options, maybe you can try a different protien shake or add something to it.

I bought one of those small bullet blenders and add ice and fruit, it comes out real thick and makes me feel like I am having a icecream shake.

Suck it up and deal with it (just kidding)!

It does suck though, no kidding. Did you drink a lot of caffinated drinks before you began your diet? If so - that's probably where your headache is coming from, your body is going through withdrawals.

I don't have much advise when it comes to the Protein drinks - It wasn't mandatory that I drink them. Hang in there and take some tylenol for the head. This too shall pass. It will get better - I promise.

The first few days of the liquids are quite an adjustment. I too had the headaches and felt tired. I felt better if I drank some juice over crushed ice to chew on, I know that there is sugar in the juice, but I felt some of the symptoms was from a lower blood sugar, and it helped in between the Protein shakes. Jello or italian ice is another option to supplement and alternate with the Protein drinks.

Hang in there, it will be worth it!

It's probably caffeine withdrawal. I was told coffee was ok as long as your use skim milk not Creamer and no sugar. Having a cup right now myself. And we have the same doc so surely my advice is good for you too? And a chicken breast is ok too. Low calorie, high Protein, low fat but if you're sick you're sick.

Try a cup of coffee. Big hugs! I was sick sick sick when I got home last night but had a piece of cheese and felt SOOOOOO much better. And I am still 10 pounds down!

It will be worth it!!!

And can I just say I am jealous you're having your surgery Friday and not next like I am. I want this over with!!!!

I like to put crystal lite in my Protein Drink (vanilla) to break up the boredom. My cure for headaches is a margarita, but I don't think you need that before surgery. Stay Strong! You can do this!

Right now I've got fruit punch in, but I use lemonade, ruby red grapefruit, rasberry, I like them all. I throw in some crushed ice and blend...yum!

Wow! :hurray:Just 2 more days and tonight! I am so up! I have to do Clear Liquids tomorrow and Thursday for Surgery on Friday! I was one of the lucky ones that got to do Low Carb for the past 2 weeks. I did ok, but the Doc said I didn't have to be too strict.... :crazy:Opps, If he had told me it was set in stone I would have done better. Oh well, I have lost about 8 lbs in the past 10 days, :clap:so it worked! Hope all of you are doing good!

I think Mamamarie and I are sort of in the same place. I crashed today around lunchtime and just had to close my door and lay down on the floor for a nap. I had a headache all afternoon and only after taking copious amounts of painkillers has it dulled. I am praying tomorrow is easier.

But IT WILL BE WORTH IT! And I know I am capable of doing low carb now so I am delighted with the world since I never thought I could.

OK crashing on the sofa now.

I had a headache the first 3 days, and had to take my Migraine medicine. Then, the headaches disappeared and I have actually felt better and had more energy. I've been on Optifast now for 3 weeks. it does get better.

I was on a 5 day liquid diet and experienced the same symptoms as you all. I decided to eat a 4 oz chicken breast and brocolli with onion salt and I was satisfied and the headache went away. This is a high protein/no carb diet - so I figured it went along with doctor's orders. BUT, I think you should still consult with your doctor and ask specifically are there other food choices that would satisfy this diet plan. I think my doctor makes liquid diet plan a requirement because he doesn't think his patients can or are willing to follow a strict diet that consist of preparing "real food"; the liquid diet just makes it easy. Call him and see. Good luck to you both on your liquid diet.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
