Hi All! I'm new to the site, but old to the band. I was banded on January 25, 2005. My pre-surgery diet weight was 317lbs. My surgery date kept changing, so I ended up on the clear liquid diet for almost 30 days (HORRIBLE for your liver) so my pre-surgery weight was 278. By December of 2005, I was down to 190. I have since gained 30lbs, and I'm fighting it back off with exercise. It's taking a little longer this time, but I'm committed to the fight. I honestly don't remember which band that I have, but I've had 4 adjustments. I've had ups and downs with the band, but I truly believe that it was a great decision.

I haven't participated in any support groups (except for the waiting area for adjustments...amazing how sitting in an ill-fitting hospital gown with a group of strangers makes you open up!), so I think that this will be a great experience for me.

Thanks in advance for you support and information!

Welcome! I was just banded on the 13th so I am new to everything here. If you are gaining why haven't you had a fill recently? Just curious.....

Hi Fox...congratulations for your amazing success! And good for you for seeking support. I was also banded in 2005 and am basically starting all over because a string of bad decisions...(another story) I'd love to know how you're doing and what you find works after a few years. Good luck!

I haven't had a fill in a little over a year. The last time I went in, my doctor told me to continue to increase exercise and Fiber again because my band is full. In all honesty, I lost so much so quickly because in addition to the restriction of the band, I was exercising at least 2 hours a day, at least 5 days a week. I was consuming 1100 calories and probably expending more than that most days, which isn't great for you because as soon as you return to a more normal activity schedule (which still isn't sedentary), you are bound to gain. My eating still isn't horrible (which is what everyone says until they journal, lol).

I'm doing well! Before my surgery, I had HORRIBLE pain in my knees and back because I've always had bad knees, and...well....I was 5'6" and 317 pounds. My body, even after gaining, feels so much better as I move through daily activities. I have always been bigger; in high school with 18% body fat, I weighed 180lbs and was a size 14. My goal weight is 175-180.

I was just married May 10 (yaay me!), and I started working out consistently after my initial dress fitting, and ended up getting alterations up to 2 days before my wedding because I kept losing inches. It still ended up being a little big. I've found that consistency is key: as long as I maintain consistent activity (which for me means 30-45 minutes 5 days a week) and make good food choices (which is easier than most people think) I'm good. I'm giving myself until my husband's birthday in November to be back at the weight and measurements I was when we met (November 05).

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
