I was banded on 5/9 and several times a day I get this full painful feeling in my chest. It almost feels like I need to burb but can't. It lasts for a second or two and then goes away. Does anyone else have this?

I get it now and then but not more than once a day. I would be interested to hear what others have to say about this.

I think this is your new full sensation. It took me quite a while to get used to not being full in the stomach. I'd feel full in the chest/throat area instead.

Some people have restriction right after surgy and others need fills. I don't know if it's gas but I would ask the doctor. I was banded on 1/28/08 and has such bad gas that I had to go the ER to have my heart checked as per my bariatric doctor's orders. It eventually subsided after 2-3 weeks. I've got it again now. It started after my 4th fill and the chest pain got so bad after my 5th fill which was a week ago.

They say that sometimes it get's better in 2-3 weeks after the swelling goes down after the fill. If it doesn't get better, i guess I'll have to ask for a little unfil. But mind you it would only be a little because I'm losing weight. It's hard to keep down food and I regurgitate it up. I'm also watching my calories and exercising. Go figure. LOL

My surgeon explained to me like this...

In order to have plenty of room to operate within your abdomen, they inflate you with CO2 "to expand the area" he said. I think the dissipation of those gasses was the most painfull part of recovery! Oh, and when it a bubble makes it into your shoulders it's as bad as broken ribs! Ask your doctor, but I am sure this is what your experiencing. I was banded on 5/7 and today, the 12th, I feel that it may be just about gone, whoohoo!

Oh, the reason you don't burp is because it's not in your organs, it's just everywhere!

Hi,

I was banded the same day as you and I have the same feeling too. I spoke to my surgeon about it and he said it is residual gas that can stay in your system for 5-7 days until it is fully absorbed by your bloodstream.

This is all such a relief to hear. I was banded 5/7 and keep wondering when this gas pain will go away! I have the tightening in my chest and the shoulder pain. Last night was about the worst shoulder pain yet. It has been one week today since my surgery, I thought the gas pain would have dissipated by now.

Banded 5/7 and had same symptoms. Less now. There are times I burp so I know they're diff causes. Sometimes my pain will like "spasm" up into my neck, but the go away wihtin seconds. But, like I said, less now than 2 days ago! Does anyone have this constant pain in their bottom left ribcage?

Hi everyone - I was banded 5/6 and have experienced a pain in my chest that started off feeling like spasms and now feels like my heart flopping around. I have been considering calling my cardiologist. There sure is a lot of activity going on in that region of my body that it's very hard to distinguish what's what.

It could be esophageal spasms...I experienced that for about the first 3 months after being banded. The best thing to do is eat ridiculously slow. I found that I could eat 3-4 bites of a meal then wait 15 minutes. Then I could finish. Weird huh? I have had many problems with my esophagus so don't push your luck!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
