Any happy transcriptionists?

Recommended Posts

I have been an MT for the past 14 years and have been in the same job for the past 4 years. However, changes in accounts have left me reeling and I feel a need to prepare myself in case they can't move me to a different account. I just wondered if anyone out there is also an at-home transcriptionist who LOVES their job. If so, I'd love to hear from you either here or PM me.

THANKS!!

Hi Missy. Are there changes coming to the field in general that make you consider getting out of MT at home? The reason I'm asking is that I've tried to persuade my mom to look into this. She can type, like, a billion words per minute (she's been a secretary doing dictation for over 30 years). Sorry for kind of hijacking the thread.

Hey Missy. I am taking online courses to be a MT at home. I've only completed 3 tests but I think I am going to like it. I am a SAHM and my son is two. He'll be going to preschool next year and I am excited about working from home and looking forward to the extra income.

I hope it works out for you, whether you stay where you are or do it from home. Good luck!

I was a transcriptionist for 7 years but then the company that my boss worked for got a program so we weren't needed any more. I typed workmen comp claims. I liked doing it at the time and it was great because I could be home with my kids. At the time I did it, it was still somewhat old fashioned and I carpooled with different girls and picked up tapes to type. I know things are a lot different now, that was at least ten years ago and it wasn't medical. But I liked being my own boss but I also didn't like the idea that there was always work to do. But like I said it was great at the time because my children were younger and I was able to stay home with them. brandyII

i've been thinking of doing this myself. what kind of income is possible and how many hours would you say you have to work a week?

----i'm in serious need of a job change--- or maybe just an addition to the one i already have.

Actually, I do this from home now, just wondering if I should jump ship in the case it is sinking... KWIM? BUT I am not getting out of the MT field just changing companies.

I generally work about 30 hours a week and what I can make is dependent on exactly how much I type. A reasonable estimate would be at least $500-$600 a week. Of course, working the night shift, I make considerably more but the night shift is not for everyone.

Good luck to you who are training now. It is truly a great field to be in ... mostly because I can be home with my 4 children!

I'm not but my daughter is. She loves it. She works 20 hours a week. I believe the co. is Ampheion or something like that. She works at home. They supplied all equipment. Everything is done on line.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
