What is this sharp pain in my side?

Recommended Posts

It's just at night and it's a really sharp pain in my side when I'm sitting up. When I lay down it goes away, but boy does it sting when I sit he wrong way. Anything serious?

I feel pain too. I got surgery on 4/3 and my port is on the left side of my stomach. I have to sleep and lay down on my left side so that I do not feel any pain. If I sleep or lay on my right side, I feel pain. I also cannot sit up for long periods of time at home without pillows propping me up. I will feel pain if I am not slightly laying back, like on my couch or bed. The good news is that it seems to be getting better as time passes. I guess this is part of the healing process. Good Luck to you.

I'm 4 weeks out :-). It isn't where my port is, but it must be standard. Probably nothing to worry about (if I die tomorrow, don't quote me) lol

Holy crap that's a big font. My eyes are burning.

No way I could tell you what it is, I'm not a doctor, nor have I examined you. Where in your side does it hurt? Does it feel like anything you've felt before? What did your surgeon say when you called them to discuss?

Well, I didn't exactly call my doctor because I really don't think it's anything serious. I just thought I'd ask my band ladies.

It's kind of sharp, right under my left ribs. Only in the afternoon and only when I sit up. Laying down it's fine.

Judging by what everyone's saying, I don't think it's a big deal. It's not like it's excruciating pain that I just can't stand.

I Had It For 3 Months Now...(the Band) And I Had That Pain I Was Worried Called My Doctor Who Told Me It Was Very Normal... It Went Away After Less Than A Week.. Its Like A Burning Sensation... Like If Someone Is Streching Ur Insides And Holding A Lighter Under Ur Muscle...... But It Will Go Away...

It's probably from where nerves were cut and/or things were pushed around to place the band, port and laparoscopy tools. Surgeons are not the most gentle of creatures - there's a lot of pulling and pushing and tugging that goes on during surgery. I have a pain that runs about 6 inches below where the port is placed and I can also feel pain in my mid back, probably opposite the band, especially when I hiccup. I'm only 8 days post op so I expect these will go away slowly. Call you doctor if the pain gets worse or you feel anything bulging.

I'm eight days post op and I still have the pain in my left side near my port, I thought it would be gone by now,:w00t: but as I read all these posts I guess I have a few more weeks. :w00t: When I put my hand where it hurts I can almost feel the port, just alittle puffy, is this normal.

I was just banded on 4/25. First 2 days I did okay with the Clear Liquids, but then after I was so hungry and miserable so I've tried pureed foods and such. That seems to help a bit, but I get these hiccups and they hurt so bad. Feels like I'm contracting everything in my stomach region and I get a sharp pain inside where my stomach is and where I imagine the band sits. Before I would get the hiccups when I'm was hungry. And now after the band, I do feel a sensation of hunger and when I hiccup it hurts because my stomach is empty and I guess because everything is sore. But then when I eat, I have a few ounces of purreed food or Soup and then I feel okay, but occasionally there is more hiccuping. And then about an hour later, I feel empty and the hiccups usually about 2-3 and pain begins again. Has anyone experienced this? What could help with this?

I don't have any pain unless I push the exercise a bit much. I still am a bit puffy where the port is and figure this will go down within a few more weeks. I can sleep on my left and right side with no problems, however this has only been the case for about a week now.

Banded 4/18/08, Dr. Stephan, Dallas Medical Center

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
