How long were you on liquids AFTER surgery?

Recommended Posts

I am on liquid for about two weeks and pushing into mushies after the first 10 or so days. It seems as if others are on liquids for a lot longer. Do you think this will be too soon? Just curious how it worked out for you...

I was banded on April 14, 08 and I was on liquids 1 week after surgery. My first stage of eatting was on 21 and they told me I can start to have scrabled eggs..If I keep that down then I can start my tuna, and cottage cheese stage. I told my Dr that I was hundgery and that's when he put me on a week earlier. So I guess it depends on your Dr on what he likes you to do. Before I was eatting Suage Free snow cones all the time. That would be my lunch and dinner..hehehe..So just don't rush your body and if you are ready after a week on liquids ask your Dr if you can move on to the mushies. It won't hurt to try and ask..Hope this helps!! Take care!

He originally said two weeks on full liquids but then the day I was discharged, the doctor mentioned that with the new band (I have one of those Realize ones), the first fill is at 4w instead of 6w.

So I'm kind of wondering if maybe I can move forward sooner. I go and see him on Thursday. I'll be interested to know what he says.

God knows I'm starving - and I really, really was hoping I wouldn't be.:(

ETA - OK. I just sent him an email. I can't wait till Thursday. Now I'm curious to see if the timeline changes. I'll let you know when he responds.

ETA2- He said that the fill dates don't change the food timeline, but that I could move to mushies 10-14days post surgery. At 3w post op, I move to soft solids as tolerated and then go on from there. HTH -m

It really does depend on your dr.

My co-worker and I were both banded on the 16th by different drs. I was on Clear Liquids for 3 days and then on full liquids for 2 weeks.

She was on mushies after only a week.

i was told full liquids for two weeks which included Soup with out chunks. I was only taking in Clear Liquids because soup just did not interest me and neither did Protein drinks.. I moved on to mushies after 10 days I was slow and chewed chewed and chewed even though it was a mushie and I was fine.

Hmm, thanks for the input. Mine seems to think the more solid the better...and quick. He has me moving to mushies at 10 days but starting "liquid with chunks" now. Yesterday I had vegetable Soup and mushed the hell out of the soft veggies and part of the way through I started to worry so I blended the rest and drank it. I guess I'm just worried about popping the stitches out of my belly.

My doctor has me on three weeks of liquids - anything that could fit through a straw. I'm a week and a half into it. UGH!

I was supposed to be on clear liquids for a full 4 weeks, but after the third week I couldn't do it anymore and started on a little thicker liquid like cream Soup or cream of wheat, I am now due for a fill in 2 days, and am and am on to mushy for another two weeks. For a total of 8 weeks. I agree with many people on this board it's best to follow your docs instructions to the T. By the way I feel great, love my band more and more each day. Can't wait for the fill. Good Luck to you!

I am one of the lucky ones. I was given mushy stuff while in the hospital and have done it every day since. I was told to do what I could and let my body tell me what I could take or not. I have been very selective as to what I eat and am doing well. I went to the Doctor at one week and he was happy with what I have done so far. I have lost 11 pounds that week! My boyfriend took me to dinner that night and I had Soup and a nibble of some of his dinner and was so happy.

I am careful about what I eat and only eat very very limited amounts of very select items. I have lost another pound so I know what I am doing is working for me.

Please listen to your doctor and follow his instructions. You will be the better for it.

Nancy

Hi , I was banded on April 17th, I was on full liquids day two, pureed, and mushy starting after one week. I am eating tuna, chicken (like chicken salad) and today I even had roast beef (pureed). I was worried I was eating to much but I am loosing and feeling good. My doctor (in Ontario) mentioned that a recent course they took said that new research focused on a new and improved post op diet.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
