Did something stupid...and it got stick...

Recommended Posts

I'm 4 days into the mushy stage and I did something STUPID last night. As you all know once we get into the mushy stage we want to EAT, well at least I did!

After worked last night I decided to stop and get some shrimp and vegetables and rice for me and my husband. Once I got home I measured my portion and put it in the blender, it was like minced shrimp and vegetables, it looked weird but tasted good. Then I decided to take a spoon of the white sticky rice and eat it, well all of a sudden, I felt like food was in my throat, then I felt like I couldn't breath, then a weird feeling in my upper chest, and hic ups. I went over to the sink and tried to take a sip of Water, that did not help, I burped again, leaned over the sink and tried to make myself throw up, and guess what my food -not much- came up. A friend of mine who has the band and said, you will know when something get's stuck or you eat too fast..and boy did I...

I will never do that again! I still have that Old Stinky thinking when it comes to food.

My band surgeon advised me to avoid all rice, Pasta, white bread and red meat for one month. However, I attempted to eat a tuna fish salad sandwich and it got stuck after only 2 bites and all I could do was stand in front of the sink with tears streaming down my face. The people at work did not know what was wrong with me. I think you experienced that as well. It hurt so bad that I probably will never eat at sandwich again!

Ouch! I know how badly that hurts.

You don't need to be reprimanded or chastised - you already know what a mistake that was - your body told you.

Think of it this way - You've already learned a valuable lesson!

hey there,

girl i know where your coming from. I got my band on march 9th, so about a week ago i started with ground meats. So this past tuesday, i made a huge pot of Pasta and meat balls for my family. Well, i ate a meatball and it went down fine in 8 pieces or so, then i desided i was gonna be a tough girl, and i put one piece of pasta in my mouth. I chewed it really really well, and i swallowed, and no sooner did it come right back at me. It was the worst feeling in the world! i wont be trying pasta for a long time..hehe..

i wish you much luck,

Oh, that's a bad feeling, isn't it? Pasta, rice, and bread are bad about "swelling" once you swallow them and getting "stuck". That's painful and you're really wanting it to come back up and exit your body. Yuk!

It's so weird...there's no rhyme or reason to what seems to give you the 'toxic golf ball' sensation. I didn't feel like Breakfast this morning - had a bit of yoghurt drink but that was it. By midday I was hungry so opened the salad I had made at home which was roasted chicken breast, baked squash, ricotta with a little chili and red onion - yum. Well....the first bite felt tight but the second was agony. I made the classic mistake of taking some Water. That definitely makes it worse. I hid in the loo for 10 mins and the feeling passed but boy, it was painful. yet other times I can eat whatever I want.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...
