What food gets stuck the most?

I had my 'initiation' into band-hood with salmon. But I know it was due to the bite-size (open mouth, inhale!). So far I have learned from that and have enjoyed without difficulty all foods...in moderation, of course. But no food has presented a challenge.

I am considering whether or not to have my 3rd fill, as I seem to be losing steadily (not quickly), and am able to eat everything so why tempt fate?

Same here. I can't eat much in the am, but if I come home hungry for dinner and forget to chew, Yawwwza:eek: and then the fun begins. I do it every time I am so hungry. I get mad because I know better.

yes, I have trouble with a whole list of things...fries, crackers, pancakes, etc. But my biggest problem is about 50% of the time I eat a meal, I have to throw up after about 3 or 4 bites (I kinda make myself...very easily...cuz it hurts when something's stuck!) but then immediately afterwards, I can go and eat the same food, and a pretty good amount of it, that I just threw up. And I am chewing it thoroughly from the start. It makes no sense.

I've had some issues with pancakes(since the beginning), applesauce and breads lately.

I really haven't had any other problems. I do my best to remember to chew thoroughly and eat tiny bites and take my time. I've had a few problems though when I'm not fully concentrating on my eating techniques.

I am more restricted first thing in the morning. It takes me awhile to drink only half of my Decaf, then I try to get down a Protein shake for Breakfast. I try to eat a very small banana around 8AM and it takes me about an hour to do. I like to eat one every day for the potassium.

I had my first real problem with sweet and sour pork. We had Chinese at work, and so I ordered some... Mistake :tongue: 3 or 4 bites later, I had to go for a walk, and I learned all about the lovely sliming and then pb'ing I have read so much about on this forum!!

I have had 2 fills now, am going next week for the 3rd. I simply do not take small enough bites...Why can't I get it through my head????

Plus, I am eating TOO MUCH!!

I need some advice...I actually ate 2 fish fillet sandwiches at one sitting last night for supper... that means 2 Buns, 2 fillets, and 2 pieces of fat free cheese...what is wrong with me????

How is it even possible to eat all that with a band?? I was super full, but I didn't stop myself.. I need some words of wisdom here, because I cannot believe I let myself do that...

today I have eaten a small apple fritter, 4 inch sub, Rice Crispies (small bowl) and that bumblebee chicken salad (160 calories, 9 gram protein)that comes with 6 crackers and a little tin of chicken salad...drank 32 ounces of liquid. not enough Water, way too much food...

I am finding it hard to live with myself this week... I know that I just need to go back to basics.

Plus I only went to the gym 3 times this week...bleh...:biggrin:

Please be careful to never overfill your pouch! So many problems can arise from that. If you are overeating by as much as you are writing out here, I suggest you go to your surgeon and confess. Your surgeon will give you the hard truth of what can happen when you do this.

Once again, it is really unsafe to eat like that. :lol:

I was banded 2/15/08 and had my 1st fill three weeks ago. I was doing fine until last week when I had 3 episodes with food getting stuck! I was scared to death! The first one was really bad and I had been eating an orange that time. I Threw up twice and I was afraid to eat anything the rest of the day. I had to sign on and look around this Forum to figure out what had just happened. Since the first episode I have had two other ones that were just as painful and scary. Both occured when I was eating either a sandwich or some other form of bread.

I guess I really need to know if once you have a PB if you are more susceptible to getting food stuck? My chest pain lasted for hours after the food had passed, I almost felt like my esophagus was in a spasm for hours afterward as well.

Any advice anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. 4/20/08

I have trouble with beef and breads. ANY kind of bread. It just wont go down. The first problem with beef I ever had was when I made a roast in the crock pot. OMG it was so tender and good, but it just wouldn't go down. HELLO SLIMING....gross. And for JoyAddison...please be careful eating that much food. You could cause your band to slip or tear your sutures or have a prolapsed pouch. Use your band as a tool and listen to your stomach, not your head. Stop eating when you feel full. You should be able to eat 1/2 to 1 cup of food comfortably. Head hunger makes you want to eat even when your not really hungry. Also, be sure you DO NOT drink when you eat. It washes your food through the pouch and your hungry again. Good Luck.

I have not had a problem with getting anything stuck until last night I think. I had sloppy joes and fries so I'm not sure which one did it the bread or fries, but something is wrong today I still fell like there is a rock in my gut, I was not able to eat Breakfast this morning, which is strange for me I always have Breakfast. I'm feeling like something needs to move. I know we're supposed eat only Protein, but I'm feeling like I need a salad you know some roughage to get things moving. Has anyone else experienced anything like this, feeling backed up? If so what did you do to reslove the problem?

The first thing that I got stuck on was grits. They were really thick and dry, so not too surprising. I have eaten grits since then with no problems, so it was how they were made, not grits themselves.

The other times I have gotten stuck, it was food that I'd eaten with no problems before. I just took bites that were too big, did not chew enough or ate too fast. I don't have a "problem food" and have tried all of the potential problem foods except popcorn. My surgeon doesn't ban it, but since it'll just fill me up without any Protein, I don't see the point in eating it. I also tend to stick to crackers or toasted bread when I do eat it; why tempt fate?

Trae, you are probably feeling bloated from eating such a heavy meal. My nutritionist never said to eat "only Protein, " but to eat protein first, vegetables second and carbs third. So if you don't have problems with salad, then by all means, you can eat it. I eat salad almost every day, either as part of a meal or as a meal itself with lean protein on it. Of course that is my nutritionist -- you may want to check with yours or your surgeon.

As for making things "move," you can try eating high-fiber foods and drinking lots of Water. I use Benefiber in my Water on occasion and once I used milk of magnesia.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'm going to try salad with some chicken on it for dinner. I really have not ventured out into the veggies yet, mostly all Protein and some carbs. I have a feeling once I start getting more fruit and veggies into my diet I'll start feeling better.

      Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

      Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
