Recommended Posts

HI Misty....

It has been so long since I posted that blog, that I forgot about it! I am still interested in meeting with people though. I am a year out, this July 31st to be exact....and I am having a hard time. Let me know what works best for you.

I'm in Hockley - way out on 290. Starbucks at 290 & Jones sounds great.

I am also in Hockley. 290 at Becker Rd. I am waiting to be banded. Maybe in October. I need to start practicing self control now. Could really use a support group. Please let me know if you find one.

I am pretty much open...if you ever want to meet up. I kinda wish I knew more about some of the "band isues" I am having now, that were not explained in the seminar that I went too. Might have thought twice about having the surgery.

Gail,

My biggest complaint about the band is the issue of gurgling. It is the most embarassing thing, to be talking on the phone at work and you make a gurgling noise into the phone. You have to wonder if the person on the other side of the line heard it or not!

My second complaint is not knowing when you are going to have issues with your restriction. There will be days when you have issues with just about everything that you eat. You never know when it is going to be either. There is also this thing called delayed restriction that happens to some people, and I have found that it has happened to me....usually a week or two after a fill, I will have all sorts of issues with food going down....even the simplest of things.

I have to admit that I was one of the people that thought the lapband would kind of be an easy way out...boy did I find that is not the truth! And it is with this that I have to wonder if it is even worth it, with the small amount of weight that I have lost.

How much weight have you lost? Do you think being in a support groups makes a difference in how well you do?

Roslyn,

I have lost around 20 pounds. I do think that a support group could help, because you can hear some of the issues that others have, which may be similar to yours and how they have worked thru them.

I don't want to be negative here - just honest. It seems that the experience is different for different people. It seems that it really is easy for some but not for others. I don't know how anyone could possibly know ahead of time if they will be one of the lucky ones or not. As much as I love the band now, I can see that this is not for everyone. I have a friend who had RNY and that was the right thing for her because if she could possibly eat sugar, she would - and a ton of it. The dumping factor with that surgery is actually good for her though she may not like it at times. Anyway, it makes it hard for people to decide if they want the surgery or not.

I know what you mean about the gurgling. Mine is not too bad yet. I haven't been banded long enough to know about the restriction issues firsthand yet (one fill). I have heard from others that stress, sinus drainage, TOM all play a part in what they can eat on a given day.

I'm in Copperfield so Katy isn't too far, neither is 290 at Jones.

I have been out of touch for a while but I have stayed with the program on my band. On my birthday this week I hit my 100 lb. mark. It was a very :biggrin2: exiting day for me. I still have 118 lbs to lose but I feel like I will actually get there. I have a 10cc band and am finally feeling restriction. My last fill took me to 5.8cc. My clothes are all too big, even my shoes! WOW.. I never thought I would be in the 200's again and now at 258 I think I will be in the 100's by February. I hope everyone is having a good summer. It sure is nice to be able to be more active!:tongue_smilie: I might even be ready to join a gym!!!!

A support group out our way sounds good. With gas what it is and work schedules, I can't get down to the True Results group every month. Let me know where and when.

babyblue - I don't know what is convenient for you (time or location). Let us know if you want to meet somewhere or if you are content to do this online only.

longroad - I went with True Results also - Dr. Hollis. So far, so good. It sounds as if you are doing amazingly well. Congrats!

Hi. I live in Lakewood Grove subdivision just off Hwy 249 and Spring Cypress. I'm slowly making my way through these posts to find convenient groups/buddies. I welcome emails for current ones you know about - thanks! Is the Alicia's restaurant one still active on 290? When do they meet?

I haven't seen anything current on that one. We could start one or go across the street to Starbucks at 290 and Spring Cypress by the Best Buy.

I'd make the trek up Fry Road from Katy if we could get a group willing to meet at that Starbucks!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?
