Need Support And Band Friends

Recommended Posts

I have been banded for 1 and 1/2 years...i have been successful and have lost 100m lbs. I have not lost any weight in over 7 months. I am getting discouraged. I want to be excited again. I feel good about myself but i still have 45 lbs to go...and i so badly want to get there. Anybody out there has fell off the bandwagon? How did you jump back on.....I am soooo frustrated!!

Help Please!!

Thanks......Cindy

Well you have come to the right place! We are all about support here.

Things that have worked for others is logging all your food on fitday or sparkpeople.com

Are you exercising? I would probably never lost more than the 22 lbs I lost on the post op diet if I didn't exercise 6 days a week.

I am sure there are a lot of other people who will chime in with great advice.

Do you need a fill? What are you eating, and how much? Is quantity a problem, or quality?

Don't think of the last few months as a failure; think of that time as a break you took from being a bandster, but now it's time to join the club again! The beauty of the band is that we can take a break from it, but not necessarily gain wait like we would have when we would yo yo diet.

I am not sure if I need a fill or not...i get full pretty fast. I think that...i know that i am eating all the wrong things...i has to stop exercising because I had surgery and i just have never brought myself back to do it again....I am wanting to eat junk food, i am craving chocolate and dont know how to overcome it. I know what I need to do, i just dont know how to make myself do it. I feel like a failure!

You are not a failure.. 100# lost ... that sounds like 100 pounds of success to me!

Success comes one day, one choice at a time. Re-start today!

30 seconds of exercise today... maybe, 30 more seconds than yesturday! Start with baby steps.

And keep us posted. Good luck!!!!!!!!!

When I crave chocolate I have a sugar free fudgesicle. they are pretty good. I don't have cravings until in the evening. I also have some of the Cookies in the 100 calorie packs.

Try to count calories and set a limit on how many calories you're going to have. Save up for your snack. If you eat mostly Protein, those cravings will go away.

Wow, Cindy! I just saw your pics you loaded in another thread. You look fabulous! I like the advice about taking a break from the band. Maybe you needed some time to adjust to your new "look" and "feel". I'm new at the band so don't have any band advice but I do know that in the past; if I force myself to get back into a healthy routine, then it gets much easier after a few days and the cravings start subsiding. It just takes making a strong commitment to get "back on the wagon" GOOD LUCK!

Cindy, I completely understand what you are going through. I am 21 months in and 35 lbs from goal. 35 lbs mind you that have been there for at least 6 months! The only advice I can give you is make sure you have good restriction, walk if you can, make sure you are meeting all the dietary requirments (I joined Weight Watchers yesterday and committed to 12 weeks prepay) and drink plenty of Water. One other thing I did was buy a size 16 jean which is down one size from where I am. That is my next goal. Good luck.

First, decide if you need a fill. How long do you feel satisifed after eating a "normal" portion of food? You've had fills, you now how to figure that out.

To rid yourself of the cravings, detox! Do two days of full liquids, lots of Protein and very low carbs. You can check on the forum for the "five day pouch test" diet.

It's what is recommended for GBP patients that have fallen off the wagon. It clears your system from the carbs and will help you get back on track.

Plan the day you will start and be sure you have everything you need in the house, so there are no excuses.

After the detox, for at least two weeks, count every calorie and track all your Protein.

You've lost 100 pounds, getting back on track and doing a few days of liquids, is a walk in the park!

Thanks so much everyone!!! I soooo needed to hear all of this. It also helps to know that there are others out there that are dealing with the same struggle as me. I will definitely start that thread. I am going out of town this weekend, I am prepared for that I bought healthy foods, but when I get back I will start that new thread and detox myself. I know I can do this..I just need a good kick in the rear. I think I may go in for a fill, I think I may need a small one. So far today, I have done pretty good, I have only had coffee today and a large salad ( vinegar and olive oil) tonight I will have gumbo and I have a pack of 100 cal. animal Cookies....I also plan on walking for 30 minutes. Wish me Luck!!

Again...Thanks soooo much everyone.

oh, wait now....only coffee? How about a protien for Breakfast? The salad is fine but add some protien....gumbo is fine but how about some fruit for desert?

don't forget. you want to be healthy, not just skinny. Can you join WW for awhile to get back on the health track?

You might want to start the thread a few days earlier and state the starting date and post the 5 day diet, so others have time to get what they need and start with you.

Like the target date challenges that we do on the forum. Everyone that joins can sign in every day or two to let everyone know how they're doing and support each other.

It's only five days, it's totally do-able.

Watch your Protein, you don;t seem to be getting enough.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
