So I started trying thedailyplate today and it's nice, but isn't there a list you can choose from for food like on fitday, or do you just type in what you ate and wade through the results?

Well, I'm not sure what you mean by a list... but you search their database and the more specific you are with what you're searching for the shorter the list for the foods you will find. Once you add it to your plate then it stays on a list, on your profile, for you to access quickly. You can also search that list that contains just food you've eaten if it gets too large.

I hope I'm making sense... if not... ask more questions and I'll try to answer them a little better :-)

There are a couple of ways to get your food into The Daily Plate.

You can type in the search box and get a list of foods that match your keywords. If I get too many results the first time, I look at what is coming back to figure out a way to express what I ate more precisely to get less results.

Also, it remembers everything you've typed in though so you can bring up a list and just check off what stuff you've ate today without having to search again for them.

There is also a list on your page of foods you eat a lot so you don't even have to bring up the full list if what you want to input is right there in the sidebar.

ETA Looks like HeatherA and I were typing at the same time! ;)

You can also add to the food list by typing in detailed information on foods you don't find in the database... and if it's a generic food/calorie that you want to add to your daily log you can just add it and call it whatever you want via your main plate page.

Thanks for the tips, what I mean is that on fitday foods are grouped by category. For instance if I ate some cheese I'd either enter the cheeses I ate into the search like on dailyplate, or (most often) I click on the Dairy and eggs category, then click on cheeses then the type of cheese.

I don't seem to find any group lists on thedailyplate, I really like that. I ate an orange and a Tomato today and got TONS of different oranges and tomatoes on thedailyplate. On Fitday I'd click on a pulldown list for fruits or vegetables and then select exactly what and what size of each that I ate.

I had fitday with downloaded program at one time. What would be truly awesome was if there was a program that would sync to one's blackberry or handheld so you always had it with you.
The paid Gold membership version of The Daily Plate has mobile access.

What I find easiest about TDP is the "my foods" look-up, where I can search all the foods I've previously entered or just click on the foods from a "my foods" list. Also, the Week View let's me drag and drop food items from one day to another.

But mostly what I like is that I haven't had to enter more than two or three items - even the most esoteric item seems to have been entered by someone. That wasn't the case at SparkPeople - I had to enter at least two or three items a day there. I must eat weird stuff, lol.

What I don't like about TDP is that since the data are entered by users, occasionally someone will change the data on an item and affect my calculations. And their recipe calculations never turn out correct for me.

I started at Fitday.com and then moved to SparkPeople I love the site. I love the motivation that I get from being on a Team of LapBanders that are striving for the the same goals and are motivated.

I alos love being able to log all of my fitness and food and keep that on track. I like the rewards the site affords with its SparkPoints as well and I also track my Water and fruit and vegtables here as well.

It lets you set other goals as well not just weight.

Love it, love it!!

Alyson, how do you get to the week view you mention? I don't think I've seen that.

Thanks!

It's on the My Plate page. It's a Gold Membership only option. The link is titled "Week-at-a-Glance View". HTH!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
