Uhmm I am from the Mesa area... I saw this link in the paper last week. Maybe it would help you Bariatric Surgery Gastric Bypass & LAP-BAND® System Banner Bariatric Center Arizona Colorado

I don't know anything about either doctors but am very curious about them. I was banded in mexico and get my fills from Wendy. However, I like to stay ontop of what is going on.

I hope to learn more about these doctors. How was your experience? What was the staff like? and so on????

Might want to track down MissMonaAZ here on LBT. She was banded in CO and had some complications and they took care of her.

I'm not sure about this, but I *think* she told me they really specialize in bypass, not banding.

Thanks for the input will check out the link. These doctors have done alot of bypass but the banding group is growing and they are getting on it. He said they had done over 400 bands last year. They are now going to do the Realize band after march.

Dr Juarez an Dr Fang both seemed nice. I saw Dr Fang. Took his time with me not that I Had a lot of questions then... His office does not run on time. I was there for over 2 hours. Maybe his PA and fill people are more on time. Wasn't bad experience just time consuming.

I have Dr. Fang and am scheduled for surgery on the 22nd. He was very nice and explained everything very well. As for his office staff...they are horrible. Not returning calls, no follow up, didn't tell me that I needed to go on a 2 week liquid diet prior to surgery. Half the time you call the line is busy.

Again, as for the surgeon, he seems to be great but the office is horrible.

I am in support group in the Prescott area. Comments in the group seem to mimic your comments. It does not appear to get any better after surgery. I went to Scottsdale Bariatric and many seem pleased with mayo and the one in Tempe.

I was just writing and lost the page so sorry if u get 2. I was blessed to have found Dr. Terry Simpson in Phoenix, he is the only Dr. certified to tech the procedure in Az, also he teaches in other states, he is a pioneer of these procedures it seems. All I can say is just check out his website, even if you dont go to him its a wealth of information, he has podcasts u can download to your ipod, they are fantastic, theres videos you can actually see Southwest Surgical Hospital of Az which he co-owns along with a Neuro Surgeon and a Brain Surgeon, I stayed there and it was great, private. I highly recommend him.He is also in Phoenix Top Doctors 2009 Magazine. You can go on their webste and read his interview. Goodluck! His website is "Dr.Simspon.net"

I am scheduled for banding on May 27 with Dr. Juarez. I am going in for my pre-op testing on May 19. Can anyone share with me information about the pre-op testing? Also, is there anyone out there who had Juarez or Fang do their surgery and now in the Albuquerque/Santa Fe area?

Thanks,

John

I was banded on 9/23/09. Doctor Hilario Juarez, is kind and nice. His office staff is TERRIBLE! After my surgery I had severe pain in my upper extremties, (turned out to be trapped gas.) But it was frightnening. I called the office several times and emailed the nurse. not one phone call back. I complained to the office manager, and she was even worse. This office staff is horrible and they dont care.

Hi I went through true results in Scottsdale and I love them. I have had my band for over a year and have had some port issues. They have always been available to me to answer questions or to get me in if I needed an unfill. The surgeon even came in one day he was not scheduled to be there to help with the unfill. They would be worth looking into. I love them. Good luck !!

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
