It's up to your surgeon... whatever he says is what you should do.

What's more important to you?

I too am addicted to Diet Pepsi. My Doc told me it will be some time, but he's figuring maybe aroung 6 months. My other thought is to let the soda go flat.I gave up diet soda when i was pregnant for my kids I guess I can do it again but this time it's for me.

Seriously, as much as I loved soda before, I had to stop drinking it...so I did. It's been almost a year and I haven't had more than 5 of anything carbonated.

I've decided to give up soda for Lent in anticipation of having surgery a few months later. My goal is to not go back to soda after Lent is over.

You should ask your doctor. I was banded 12/19/07 and I am a "diet coke" addict.... I can still drink soda. It does not bother me. I do not drink as much as I used to; its like everything else, its different for everyone. Some people cannot tolerate soda after LPS. I recently had my second fill which gave me restriction which I'm very grateful for but I cannot eat Pasta. I have no idea why....

Hi,

my Docs have said aboslutely NO soda or carbonation!!! Thats what stretches out the pouch more than anything, according to them.

I had D Coke surging through my viens instead of blood.........LOL But I managed to give it up. It was actually easier than I thought, for me it was a matter of making up my mind........do I miss it, not too much.

I weaned myself off of it when I decided to do the surgery. When I was checking into lap banding the soda was at the top of the list for things I'd have to give up.

Its worth it for me. I've been soda free since April, 07. ;)

This is the one thing I miss the most. I too had it flowing through my veins. Thank goodness I like tea. I make it like crazy. But when my coke craving gets really bad I get a frozen coke icee. This satisfies my coke craving although I have to watch the sugar intake as it affects my diabetes. But this is what has helped me now for 10 months.

I used to drink diet pepsi every day with lunch. I've had soda 3 times since surgery. I just let it go flat. You lose that craving after not having it. Honestly, being thin and healthy is a lot more important to me than drinking soda.

I haven't had it yet...but my doctor said it's okay after 6 weeks as long as you let it go flat for at least 5 minutes before drinking. He also said it's easier to sip out of a cup than to drink from a can or straw (reduces on the bubbles you actually take in.)

I love Diet Coke and I used to drink approx 6-8 a day. My doc said it can stretch the pouch. His nurse said that some people still drink fountain diet coke with lots of ice as it is less carbonated than right out of the can. I broke the rules and had some before my 2nd fill but now I can't drink it because it is painful. I do miss it but it is tolerable. Giving up Diet Coke was worth to lose the 24 pounds I've already lost.

I have tried soda and it DOES NOT agree with me. It causes gas in my stomach and pain in my esophagus.

Do not and will not have soda again.

My doctor also told me there should be NO SODA at all! I would suggest trying to find a more healthy vice, soda can and will stretch out your pouch. One thing I have learned is to listen to better judgement when it comes to this surgery. Soda is mostly ACID and sugar when does that become good for you?? Just a thought

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

That's brilliant! You've done amazing!! I should probably think about changing my profile picture at some point. Mine is the doll from Squid Games. Ironically the whole premise of the show is about dodging death. We've both done that...

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
