Dr Christian De Bruyne

Recommended Posts

Hi I am very interested in having gastric banding done can i organise to meet with you to discuss this procedure

Dear Lisa,

This is a patient chat forum, if you want to chat to Dr Chris De Bruyne you should go on their web site where there is a lot of information and a direct email address to the dr. here is the link for the website:

Obesity Consultations - Obesity Assist - Obesity Surgery

I got so much information from this website and the doctors website, I also spoke to someone who has been to Belgium for the surgery that I didn't feel a pre op meeting was necessary, I emailed all my medical details to the Dr and he was satisfied to go ahead, my surgery is on the 17 of March.

There is also a better 'thread' on this chat site, it's more recent and up to date, you just need to keep reading the chates to find out more info. It is very informative and supportive, you get to recognise the people writting on it!

All the best with your quest!

Hi Everyone

I am considering have lap band fitted by Dr De Bruyne, but I have been told (by people who have not had it done) that it means I would be on medication for as long as the band is inside. Is this true please? If yes, do you know any side effects that the may drugs have. Please help me.

Thank you

Bigjoy

Hi and welcome bigjoy, i had my band fitted by dr chris on the 16th jan 09, you dont need medication so maybe your friends are trying to put u off surgery, you will need painkillers for a couple of days and you need to take Multivitamins for a few months just to make sure your body is getting everything it needs as your diet wont be the same for a while after surgery. Dr chris and his team are fantastic and really look after you, i havnt looked back since my surgery and so far i have lost 2 stone . Hope this helps x

Hi

Dr Dillemans is THE leading Bariatric surgeon in Belgium. He teaches gastric bands and by pass. I had my surgery on 7/1/2009 and have lost 2 stone in 10 weeks I have just had my second fill today with him. If you want details please e mail me at steffikittle@hotmail.co.uk and I will give you his PA number etc. I am delighted with my surgery and would recomend him to anyone. I booked direct with him and saved a fortune and got all my own flights hotel etc. I personally go to him in Belgium for fills but he can arrange in UK and Ireland, my feeling is after all that effort best to go to a specialist who really knows how to fill properly.

Stef

Hello I have been banded by Dr Christiaan De Bruyne on the 15 Jan 2008 in Belgium .... He is a very good - Excellent Dr/Sergeon.... If there are any specific questions you were thinking of that I can help with let me know :)

Hi there!!

I am due to have my Banding done 29th May and am excited but a bit apprehensive about the management of the band once done!

Can you summarize for me what I will be expected to do in the first 4 week period?

I see you have done very well... CDB is doing my surgery and I am staying at the Campanile @Vilvoorde...

Look forward to hearing from you

Dawn

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
