Oh Congratulations ...I have just made my appointment to see both the dietician and sugeon for 15th February...I am excited and a little afraid...afraid it won`t work for me ...I feel such a failiour not being able to just loose the weight myself by diet and excersize and I am sure some people/family think that too...

I am 62 on 11th February and I have thought about getting this done for nearly 18months now , whilst trying once again to loose the weight myself ...I just can`t do it...My knees/ankles and hips ache so bad when I walk I am hoping if I loose some weight straight up or whilst preparing for surgery it will get easier to excersize because it sure is hard now....

Glad I found some 60 plus people I felt a little old now I have a place of my own....

Nice to meet you all will keep you posted on my up coming banding and hope to read about other members my in this age bracket.....

Majj

Welcome, and Happy Birthday a little early. I am so glad you found our group. It's sounds like we had similiar joint problems. Losing the weight with the LapBand has made an amazing difference. I had my surgery 3 days before my birthday. It's the best birthday present I ever recieved. Keep in touch....

Being from the East Coast have always loved them but not a big item in Kansas. Price Chopper had them 10 for $10.

wall at 10Kg`s and no matter what I do my weight won`t budge , I am hoping with the extra help of the band I will get down and stay down....

It's good to lose weight prior to surgery. It will make everything easier for you and the doctor. I find that not only did the band itself help, but the support of the staff at the clinic was most helpful. Not to mention the accountabilty. I sure didn't want to show up without losing something.

The weather is really mad here, just outside of Chicago. It's about 28 degrees and has snowed about 6 inches today. We expect another 6 inches before it's over. What is the weather like in Australia?

Hang in there. You can do this!

Majj - You're not alone. I think we all had that thought. I know I did. All I know is that I'm elated that I did it.

The weather here in the real Oz (Kansas) is extremely COLD

It is hard, I think I am a chocaholic! I try my best, but sometimes it gets me in the stomach. Haha! Anyway, you (and I) have to decide that we can do it. I have lost about 65 lbs, total. Only lost about 20 since surgery. My mind still thinks of food. My Dr thought hat last month I did so well in 5 weeks, loosing 8 lbs, that he did not give me another fill in Jan. I am ready for a fill next month. It is very hard to keep myself on a diet, without a lot of restriction. Good luck on the 22nd. You can do it, especially with teh help of the folks on this website! :rolleyes2:

Well its getting closer and I am getting more nervous...

Thanks for the pep talks, I am glad not only I question myself ..

I too love chocolate and pray I won`t sabotage myself by over indulging...

Wow !! 65 lbs... I guess thats about 30+ Kilo`s...well done ....

If I see the weight coming off I am sure I will stick to it , thats got to be the Best insentive....

Goodnight all time for bed downunder..Have a good day....

I live in Overland Park and will have it done @ The Bariatric Center Off 435 & Nall. I'm 66 and feel I deserve a healthy, attractive body for the next 10+? years.

I understand that the band is a tool, and I'll have responsibility to make it work -- but I'm confident that if so many others can make the life adjustments necessary, I/we can do it too.

We deserve a great life. :wink2:

Just wanted to wish you God Speed on Monday. Please let me know if you need anything. Send me a message as I'm pretty close. Live in Gardner. Had my surgery at KU

Its getting closer now 24th .....can`t believe I have been on my Optifast diet for 6 days now ..doing well feeling less bloated and have lost a litle weight ..My son says why don`t you just do that (diet) instead of getting the operation and I said because I know I wouldn`t do it , if it wern`t for the operation coming up I doubt I could have stuck to this diet so well, I wouldn`t be getting the surgury if I could JUST DO IT MYSELF , I have been over weight for about 17years now (Menapause, empty nest ) and I keep getting bigger and bigger ...I have arthritis in my knees which loosing weight will help , I have High Blood pressure and depression all of which may be helped , my last blood test also showed a rise in my blood sugar so if I keep on this way I will end up with diabeties I am sure......

Still scared but determind to make this work for me .....

Good for you. I know its not magic, but I too, knew that I wouldn't stick with a diet until I lost all my weight. I get bored. Even now, I am bored, but just had a fill. I, finally, have restriction and will continue losing because of it.

I was surprised to realize that my neck is smaller than it has been in over 8 years. I used to have to put an extension on my chain fit it around my neck comfortably. Today, I took the extension off for the 1st time. It fits perfectly! hurray for me and hurray for all of us working hard to improve our health and looks! Bes t of luck. You go Girl!!

Another Australian !!Hello there . You will be just fine. Your letter sounds just like me last December. I was done on 16th Dec.You are making the best decision you can make so don't worry any more.

BTW I think we have the same birthday. Not the same age though. I wish i had decided to have the op. a few years back but even at 69 I came through it just fine and although I am not the biggest loser there is a steady weight loss. Are you having the op in Sydney?

You are going to do just fine. Just keep thinking about how much better you'll feel. Your knee's will jump for joy. I know first hand. Your BP will go down and your sugar will follow. Just know that we're here to help. Prayers going up.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
